W520 Nvidia drivers not installing during windows 7 deployment

Hello,

We are using SCCM 2007 to deploy and install Windows 7 on several types of machines. For all Lenovo Thinkpads that we are using as test machines here, the deployment works, except the new Lenovo Thinkpad W520.

We encountered problems with Nvidia Quadro 1000M driver, it seems that is not recognized by the windows setup during deployment.

Basically we imported the drivers into SCCM drivers section, create a driver package for this model, added it as a task sequence step and started windows 7 deployment. After the wim image is applied on the machine the drivers sources are copied locally and windows driver database is updated to search in the new location for drivers. All drivers for all hardware installed on Thinkpad W520 are installed corectly (including Intel HD Graphics driver) except the Nvidia Quadro 1000M.

I checked "Setupact.log" file and I noticed that the device is not recongnized by windows setup during deployment:

This Thinkpad has Nvidia Optimus technology, which switch between integrated graphics and discrete graphics. I think the problem is that during Windows Setup the discrete GPU is switched off and Windows doesn't recognize this device, so the driver is not installed.

But, after windows is installed and I go to device manager and choose to manually update driver and browse locally for driver files the driver is installed without any problems and works fine.

I'm looking for a method on how can I force the installation during windows setup. I don't need to install the nvidia applications or something else, I need only the driver. Has somebody around here any ideas regarding this issue ?

Thank you in advance!

Emilian

Re: W520 Nvidia drivers not installing during windows 7 deployment

I found this link to a dell forum...

Link

regarding the NVIDIA drivers. It seems that it's a nvidia driver issue.

I also tried to use the original setup in a TS package without any success (the TS is failling with 0x8007001 error code).

There is any updated cab drivers from lenovo, like dell does with their drivers ?

Will Lenovo release a fix for this issue ?
