"Did you try making SKYPE calls with those setting, AUDIO gets distorted etc..."

I tried it today, it works better than the default Voice EQ. Although it is a bit distorted at peak volume, however it should be at least more audible than the default or preload.
Quote from ibmford:
"KongMD, believe me, I used many EQ settings, there's also an option that automatically switches audio to voice during voip use like skype (FN+F6), but altumately some of the drivers are flakey, and I had mixed results."

I would like you to try my custom EQ settings if you have not. I would not say it's good enough to compete with other laptops such as MBP. However, it is better than normal EQ (although a bit distorted at peak volume) and I don't think I need a external speaker for my small-scale class presentations. AFAIK, MBP is targeted more towards Art and Music Industry and nobody DJ uses ThinkPad in my college. As using Mac OS X would have better music performance than Windows 7 due to DPC driver latency, DirectX or other. (This part i nt really rmb).
From what I have tested, sound from HP Elitebook or Dell Precision / Latitude isn't much better or even worse. From past review, ThinkPad T61p or other older are also known to have normal business laptop speaker (soft even at peak volume). I would say at least W520 sound card is improved compared to W510. With a W510, I would not be able to achieve a crisper sound describe by KongMD. We should hope for Lenovo make better sound driver for W520 or speakers in the future ThinkPad, since they starts to compete against Apple too.
Cheers ![]()

I use SRS HD Audio Labs with my T400. Works well.

Hi, can the SRS HD Audio Labs work together with SmartAudio SmartEQ? As I use both Custom Equalizer and SRS Premium Sound Enabled with IDT Sound Card for my Dell Studio 15.

Ah, I experimented a bit and realized that the "3D Immersion" and "Phantom Speakers" are off when both icons are blue. Initially, I thought that meant they were both on. Now that both are off, I agree with Peter in that this is the best sounding mode ![]()

Thanks for your support, KongMD ![]()
By the way, I found some bug of this version of SmartAudio. Lenovo engineers, teams or staff, I hope that you can this thread.
However, this bug makes the sound card / amplifier to push more power to the speaker. - Enable Night Mode.
Sound will be very unbalance if Night Mode is disabled. Maybe this case can be escalated to R&D.
I played with the settings with the Phantom Speakers, I reduce the effect lower and now it have better midrange / bass and more balanced sound. Vocal and peak volume may be slightly softer / lower. This settings looks like this.

Please try it and feedback again, the speaker now sounds a bit like my Dell Studio 15. Thank You ![]()

I like it! The Phantom Speakers effect broadens the sound a bit. Night mode does, indeed, prevent some of the instruments' low-end from dropping out. Good catch on the bug with the balance! The instrument drop-out when not in Night Mode was even more noticeable after listening to the same song in the default, flat configuration. The gap between the factory settings and the settings posted above is astounding. Thanks for sharing your EQ settings ^_^

Thanks for all your support!
I would find time to compile SmartAudio bugs to mail it to Lenovo Engineers and post the tweaks on other forums. Maybe I would try to run both SRS and SmartAudio to see how it sounds like 1st ![]()
Once again
Thanks for making this 1 of a hot topic

Hi, I have 3 new EQ settings to share with you all. Louder and better than previous version of EQ.
*Do expect to have slight distortion in maximum volume as currently these preset is louder than the previous 1.
1. No Effect - Pure Stereo, for Audio Purist / Audiophiles who does not like effects.
http://hphotos-snc6.fbcdn.net/271299_1015021919305
2. Phantom Speakers Effect - More focus on vocal and clarity.
http://hphotos-ash4.fbcdn.net/272352_1015021908210
3. NEW! 3D Immersion - It sounds like Mono with virtual surround. More focus on 3D, Surround or Presence sound. Works well with old songs or games.
http://hphotos-snc6.fbcdn.net/280456_1015021919298
This 3 presets share the same EQ.
31Hz: +14dB
62Hz: +14dB
125Hz: -14dB
250Hz: -14dB
500Hz: 0dB
1KHz: 0dB
2KHz: 6dB
4KHz: 6dB
8KHz: 3dB
16KHz: 0dB
Changes from previous EQ
1. Increasing 31Hz and 62Hz to the maximum increase the amplification power to the internal speaker.
2. 8KHz is decrease to 3dB for smoother sound.
I hope you all would take your time to test and feedback which is better? Previous EQ or this new EQ (No effect, Phantom Speakers, 3D Immersion) is better?
Once again, please try it and feedback, I am quite satisfy with this settings.

By the way, is there anyone able to integrate SmartAudio together with SRS HD Audio Lab?
I tried, but it failed, it even fails to install, even though the SRS Driver is installed.
