i had 3 terribly days setting up a W530 (2447-43G) with Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard. As far as the system itself is concerned no much trouble. Some W7-driver were needed and Optimus with latest Driver gives a bluescreen. But using only the Intel works for the moment.
But what doesn't work is HyperV-role in W2k8R2. Once enabled the system won't boot - it stops with a black screen showing only the mousepointer. I tried now 10 times in different combinations to make it work - without patches, with patches, with recommend updates and without. I even tried with no driver installed at all. Nothing worked.
Once HyperV-role is enabled the system don't boot.
Disabling virtualization in Bios lets the system start again - but hyperv doesn't work because of initilisation-error.
Now i've testet Windows Server 2012 - this time all went well - hyperV enabled, machine created and startet successfully. Same settings in W2k8 and it freezes (testet also withoud VT-d).
Please check this with another W530 and - if it works - let me know which driver and bios-settings to use.
With best regards and eager for a solution

Sorry to hear that, I wish that I still had my copy of 2008 R2 and 2012, but I misplaced my DVDs. as for the optimus bluescreen, that won't beable to be solved until nVidia releases the Verde Drivers for windows, which hasn't been done yet(the Linux Drivers have been Released however). It sounds like a driver problem, but I wouldn't know where to start. something with VT-d and VT-x is causing the machine to not boot.
At the screen with the cursor, can you press CTRL + ALT + DEL to bring up the screen to start the task manager. also, what about safe mode?

Copies can be downloaded at Technet, Dreamspark or something similar :-)
CTRL + ALT + DEL doesn't work, no chance to start explorer by hand. Safe mode doesn't work either - it says something like modules to be configured (for like 5 seconds) and reboots without any further errormessage or bluescreen - just a reset.
Driver: I've testet the windows-own, lenovos driver package and the original intel ones. Doesn't change anything :-(
The machine gets really hot in black-screen-mode - also the hdd is quiet active about 10 minutes - then its slowing down but nevertheless only a black screen.

I may try 2012 once the nVidia drivers are out, and I have access to my MSDNAA Account(I don't get access until school starts).
hmmm. It's almost acting like my W520 did when I tried windows 8 on it. Can you move the cursor around?
With my W520, trying windows 8 yielded a completely frozen machine where the fan would spin up and it would get warm. It's still sounding like some driver is hanging the machine when hyper-v is turned on.
This guy here got Hyper-V runing on his demo unit
Doesn't say how he did it though.

I've tried Optimus, fixed Nvidia (Bluescreen) and fixed Intel - stockdriver and the manufactures own. At the moment i'm using fixed intel with stockdriver (ms standrd graphics)
I can move the cursor - sometimes slow and staggering, mostly fluend. I've already found this blog and mailed the author - he can not test it again (only one week testmachine). Regarding he doesn't even started a hyperv-machine it's not impossible VT wasn't turned on in BIOS (default) - so hyperv would install and start without any problems.
The last comment says something similar to my problem - he turns memoryprotection of so windows starts again. But hyperv doesn't work anymore.
You don't need MSDNAA - you can get it here: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-en/evalcenter/dd45
Any MSN-Login will do.
EDITH: Even HyperV-Server 2008R2 (Core-Server with HyperV) gets stuck - it stopps on first boot after install with Windows Loading Screen.

I've tried Fixed Intel. Fixed Nvidia (discrete) and Optimus - see first Post
EDITH: HyperV-Core-Server 2008R2 comes up with virtualisation disabled - but no use using a hyperv-server without hyperv ;-)

I had a BSOD with windows 7 and my nvidia card at some point when reloading my W520/W530. It happened when I installed the optimus drivers. I can't remember how I fixed it, but it involved drivers downloaded from nvidia's page(which still don't exist as of this posting for windows). The verde drivers tend to fix weird issues.

Would you please try installing 2008R2 and enabling the HyperV-role? Of course with VT and Memory Protection enabled in Bios. You do not need to install any driver - doesn't make any difference.
It "should" crash right afer first restart with installed hyperv-role.
