I've never really used a "chicklet" style keyboard so I can't say which I prefer.  Although the ThinkLight or whatever it's called I think does offer some advantages over a backlight (if that where they're going with this), as it lights up more than just the keyboard.  But I'm more concerned with the loss of the stacked Home/End and PgUP/PgDn keys.  While they're changing the keyboard though, couldn't they make the arrow keys regular sized keys?  That's my biggest problem with ThinkPad keyboards.

Re: w530 photo

I have been using x100e for 3 months. I wouldn't say chicklet keyboard on x100e is bad, but it is not even close to the legendary thinkpad keyboard. Thinklight is one of the feature I use everyday on my thinkpad.  Sad to see how lenovo is ruining thinkpad over the years.

Has anyone confirmed this is actually the new W530 that is coming with the Ivy Bridge wave?

Re: w530 photo

Considering the W530 pic has been on the server for several days now, it does seem official. If the picture wasn't a production model, I assume they would take it down.

It seems strange to me they would go the chiclet route on the W530. I guess we'll have to wait and see if the thermals have been changed and the chassis is significantly thinner.  If they didn't change, I don't see the point.

IIRC some of the new ThinkPads that Lenovo showed at CES had the chicklet keyboard and Lenovo said that keyboard would not be in the final release.

Re: w530 photo

But why would they make pictures with a chicklet keyboard  instead of leaving the traditional one  if the chicklet is not the final release?

I'm sorry but whoever made the decision to change the keyboard to a chiclet on their W series is either crazy/ignorant/stupid or any combination of these. The Thinkpad keyboard is one of the KEY reasons to get a W Thinkpad. How delusional does an executive need to be to make the decision to anandon a key selling point in a product?

I will jump ship and buy Dell if I don't get the classic Thinkpad keyboard, and I'm not alone.

That enter key better be blue. Who buys a brand and guts it? smart.
