W700 16 GB Memory Possible? - W701 Option available now!

Hello

I was looking at the Lenovo.com site on the W701 (not 700) spec & running through the Customise options on a W701.

It appears that 16GB of Memory is available for the 701 as an option.

Does anyone know if the W700 could support the same level of memory?

I am running 8GB at present on 2.53 Quad Core & it needs a "lift" for some of the work I am doing. Hence the question.

Many thanks & kindest regards

Mark

W701 have 4 ram slots according to a review that i have seen, so this may explain why it can support 16 gig of ram.

You can allways overram with 8Gb SODIMM if you want. They are kind of pricey but they will be more afordable in a couple of months.

8gb is the max ram supported by the PM45 chipset I believe.

It does say "8-GB maximum memory support" in http://www.intel.com/Assets/PDF/datasheet/320122.pdf . Is that a hard limit?

Re: W700 16 GB Memory Possible? - W701 Option available now!

This is not my experience from where I stand. I already was able to overram my previous laptop even if the specification said that it was not supported.

Anyway, this is all speculation until someone really try to do it. But I am very confident that it will work!

T61 spec was given by Lenovo, while Intel spec did say it could support 8 gig of ram. While, the max ram spec of 8 gig with PM45 is given by Intel.

I thought that W700 would handle 16GB until I saw the Intel PM45 documentation. :smileysad:
