W700 gigabit adapter dead?

I had a lightning strike not too long ago and there was visible charring on the network cable, and the ethernet port no longer works. It's detected in device manager and shown to be operating correctly. Is there anyway to fix this without replacing the motherboard?

Re: W700 gigabit adapter dead?

I'm fairly certain it's soldered onto the motherboard. Maybe consider an ExpressCard NIC?

Re: W700 gigabit adapter dead?

if it is only the port that is damaged, then you may get away with it by getting a dock. If there is more damage than that. Then you may need to consider a usb dock with ethernet support.

Re: W700 gigabit adapter dead?

Hi castlebravo,

So the lightning struck the cable and burned it, and now the ethernet port doesn't work? This could very well be a hardware issue, but do try LiveCD of Ubuntu to verify whether the port works in Linux.
