iPad not charging on W510

I know that several "older" computers seem to have problems with usb ports that will charge the ipad, but this thing is brand new, has 2 USB 3.0 ports and the always on port, anyone have any suggestions or tips to make this work?

I have tried several things, mostly with different cables, and different adapters, but no luck so far.

Thanks

Try the yellow USB port at the back of the W510, it's a powered USB. It will charge anything that it detects. Default was set to detect iphone/blackberry at bios, maybe you should change it.

Re: iPad not charging on W510

I have actually tried all of the ports, they all do the same thing. I changed the setting in bios from iphone to blackberry to auto to no avail.  The frustrating thing is that people who report this issue always state it is on an "older" machine, not a brand new high end laptop.

Re: iPad not charging on W510

Using the Laptop USB power is not good. (if you do it a lot) It shortens battery life. Something like these would be your best option. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16812339161&cm_re=usb_ac_adapter-_-12-339-161-_-... http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16855999453&cm_re=usb_power_adapter-_-55-999-453... But it looks to me like your trying to go mobile without cords? Does it charge with the laptop plugged in? The laptop will not have enough power to stay on, power what your doing, and charge anything else without being plugged in. It is possible that the iPAD takes more amps then USB ports put out. It also depends on what is all plugged into the USB. Have you tried just the iPAD plugged in by itself?

Re: iPad not charging on W510

I was unable to sync using either of the 'front' USB ports (did not try the 3.0 port). Using the back yellow port all worked perfect (sync and charge).

Re: iPad not charging on W510

I'm glad some people are getting this work, I'm talking about a plugged in Laptop, with the white apple cord.  When I plug the cord into ANY port (including the back yellow port) the laptop recognizes and syncs just fine, but it wont charge on any port.  THis is unusual from what I can tell, newer computers seem to work fine with other people ipads

If troy at tlc got it to work on his, then maybe it's your settings on the iPAD.

For those experiencing trouble -- what BIOS are you running?

Re: iPad not charging on W510

Any solution for this? The W510 is supposed to have USB 3 (I'm not sure if it's only the orange one at the back or all three) which according to the specification should deliver 900 mA vs 500 mA on USB 2. That should according to Apple be enought to charge the iPad.

I'm not entierly sure, but it seems that the iPad is chargeing, but veeeeery slow when it's plugged in the USB port, the iPad screen is off and there is no syncing going on. Only a few % each hour though.
