I have recently upgraded my nvidia video drivers to 197.16. This has led to performance boost. Though i have one big problem now. I can no longer close the lid while the computer is on since the fan turns off and the computer stays on (i have choosen the setting in PM "do nothing when lid is closed but the same results when i choose go to sleep in stead ie it doesen't go ti sleep). The problem then is that then the left side of the laptop above the speaker grill gets very hot. I now for sure that if i let it continue like over a night then its gonna all melt down...
Lenovo guys please do something...
my system is
i7 720
fhd
4 gb ram
win 7 64 bit
500 gb 7200 hdd
intel 6300 wireless

Does the same thing happen in safe mode?

i wil try to boot up in safemode and let you know later. The problem is not present if i downgrade the video driver to the lenovo oem video driver (w510 driver matrice). i have only encountered the problem with the nvidia drivers (the new ones are much better).
another problem with the new nvidia drivers 197.16 is that audio through display port is not supported any longer.
Even if you keep the old hd audio drivers.
I hope someone from lenovo is reading this so that we can get a faultless update of the lenovo nvidia driver

This is one of the reason that you should use only Lenovo provided drivers, as they are stringently tested by Lenovo engineers to ensure that there is maximum compatibility with Lenovo laptops and won't cause problems with hardware or software that you may run on the laptop.
It will take a while for new drivers to be completely tested by Lenovo for use, so you may not get an update from Lenovo for a while.

i found out today that deselecting instant resume at standby in lenovo power manager fixed the problem.
Now when i close the lid and have selected "do nothing" the fan keeps blowing... I am relieved now. I will continue using the latest nvidia drivers as they are so much better...

How much better can they be if there is a risk of losing audio over displayport? I'l be doing system update and thats it when I build my one.
One of the reasons I wanted a W510 was for displayport 1.2. Audio is a must. The best quality audio out possible.
