Disappearing shared files

Maybe it's just me but it seems Windows has a ways to go to make networking easy. I have a T500 running 64 bit Win 7 Ultimate and a HP desktop running 64 bit Win 7 Home Premium. In Windows Explorer Computer (either system), I show a Homegroup folder and a network folder. At times on both the laptop and the desktop I can see the other computer under either or both the Homegroup and Network folders. I have permissions set to share my Word Docs folder from the dekstop to the laptop. At times I can share the docs witrh no problems. At other times I can see the docs but am told I do not have permission to access. At other times I'can't even see the docs folder. Sometimes I cannot even see the other computer. All of this happens with no inpput from me other than an occasional reboot of either or both systems. I have also tried rebooting the router. I have changed the Homegroup password on both systems. I have reset permissions under both the folder sharing tab permissions and the advanced settings. The shared folder and networked computers seem to come and go at random. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Re: Disappearing shared files

Gee, I thought that was just normal behavior for Windows networking...

Have you tried fiddling with firewall and/or anitvirus settings when you are having access problems?  I've occasionally had similar (and unexplained) issues, and usually adjusting firewall network settings has improved things.

Sorry I don't have a better suggestion,

Z.
