Hi
I currently have:
Machine: ThinkPad R400
OS: Windows Vista Home Premium SP2 32-bit
Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo @ 2.10 GHz
I am planning to (clean) install Windows 7 Professional 32-bit on my laptop.
I would like to know if this is the ‘right time’, in the sense that are all the drivers for ThinkPad available or should I wait for some more time? (I know that beta drivers were available last week but I would prefer to go for the ‘full’ versions)
Also, searching on the internet, I found that I might need to install a new BIOS before installing Windows 7. Is that correct?
Would I need to do anything else before going for the plunge?
Thank you very much for your replies.
Cheers
Chetan

Currently, Client Security Solution is not available. But you may not need it right now! ![]()

It's always good to get the latest BIOS and install that first.
Then I'd recommend doing the clean install of Win 7.
You'll find that just about all of the drivers you need will either be in the Windows install package or available on our web site by now. After you install Windows, if you download and install Lenovo System Update 4.0, it will find the drivers you need and get them for you.

Hi there, I've just carried out a clean installation of Win7 on a T60 and downloaded System Update 4 as recommended. Everything appeared to have gone O.K. with one major 'but'...
The Fingerprint reader does not appear to function. The version is correct and I followed the set-up as shown, it will not replace the standard Win7 log-on as I have set it up to do.
Any ideas / pointers?
Thank you

I just scanned my finger anyway, and it worked fine, then gave the prompt at the next login. If it doesn't seem to work the first time, give it a little time to load
[Edit] Oh, and go into the manager (search fingerprint
) and make sure that login via figerprint is enabled

Following to-day's update downloads from Microsoft, it seems to be working O.K.
I now get the 'Scan your finger...' prompt on Startup.
I have also read that Win7 detects the attached network, or lack of it.
I think that this has an effect on how your login is actioned, but I may be wrong. (No change there then! lol)
Thanks anyway.

Hi guys
Thanks all for your input.
I did a clean install and had no problems.
To Brachy09: I haven't looked into the fingerprint issue, but since your query seems to have been answered, its all good.
Cheers
