Partial of Lenovo RapidBoot Extreme for most systems.

Hi all

AFAIK, only T420s in the market with special preload with have the real full RapidBoot Extreme features. However, some of the tweaks in Lenovo RapidBoot Extreme could be achieved for most of the computers running Windows Vista and above.

For the hardware / POST part, it would not be achievable. (Unless you have a copy of Lenovo RBX OS / BIOS preload. If you are world famous superstar, you could probably have any ThinkPad laptops with Full RapidBoot Extreme)

For the OS part, it would be achievable and able to cut down seconds of boot up for any machines.

1. ThinkPad Functions Key and Enhanced Audio Features Delay is in ThinkPad.reg attachment.
- Conexant effects, Function Keys, Mute button, etc will be delayed.
 

2. USB, Ethernet and Wi-Fi devices / services Delay is in General.reg attachment
- During OS, USB devices will work if the device driver is already installed for the devices on particular ports.

If it causes any problems after applying this tweaks or no effects to your computer, you could just safely double-click undo and it would change back to original state. So far, this tweaks cut me seconds of boot up and was happy about it.

Thank you, Peter. May I summarize that in principle we may open the Services management console and selectively set Startup Type of non-essential services to Automatic (Delayed Start).

I think this is probably up to individual systems, depending on system types and configurations also.

It reduces boot up speed only slightly also for my W520, but works better on my relatives Dell and ASUS lower specs laptop.

You are most welcome. 

Normally, configuring delayed start from Services.msc or add registry does the same.

However, some of the services does not allow you to set as Automatic (Delayed Start) from services.msc.

The delayed auto-start flag could not be set.
Error 87: The parameter is incorrect.

Adding the delay startup registry to the following services works. I guess this is what Lenovo do for part of the RapidBoot Extreme or they have another set of software with services that allows delay directly from services.msc.

Surprisingly, the above tweaks added two seconds to my boot time upon closer tracing (from 22 seconds to 24 second).

Reverting it got me back to 22.389 seconds.

Here're the worst offending services on my system.
Listed is the totalTransitionTimeDelta (total time) in milliseconds in ascending order. Things less than 250ms were excluded.

My bad, I guess I would need to do more testing. Theoretically, it should improve. Maybe some of the delays are hardware delays (BIOS) for T420s. What software did you use to get the following results like process - milliseconds? I would do a fine tuning to it and see what process benefits or drawback from delay and reduce the boot time a bit more.

Theoretically, it should. But I think HyperW7Svc synchroneously waits for certain services to start, in which case slowing down certain services actually contributes to a slower boot.

Kaspersky threw a totally whack service startup time of 292 millennia once. O_O

I guess you are right. 

With HyperW7Svc enabled, my CPU are running @ low frequency during the "waiting time". (62 seconds)
With HyperW7Svc disabled, CPU are consistently @ high frequency. (56 seconds)

Rapidboot Disabled shaved off 6 seconds. O_O'

I think I need to turn off some stuffs, I have not done any maintenance, set services or disable some startup boot after installing some apps.

I will update again if there's any better results, etc.

My boot times are up 8 seconds from 22 to 30 for whatever reason... Got exams, so haven't bothered with that yet... XD
