How much does it take to ship a DVD? 17 dollars? Expecially when it's free.
If it takes 17 dollars to ship one DVD, how is Netflix still in business.
I shipped one home DVD to Singapore and it cost me $3.02.
Lenovo is scamming people. Do you guys agree?

To pour some gasoline on this: A few weeks before the W7 release, I needed to replace my HDD. Since I've replaced the broken-by-symantec installation on my Thinkpad with a Vista Ultimate x64 oem-version, instead of going into the gray areas of the oem-license I simply bought a new OEM-license. For the grand extra of NOK200 (divide by 5.5 for US$) I got the original MS "upgrade offer" coupon. Logged that code with MS, and a few days after the release I got the new disc by DHL. For free. No shipping-and-handling costs. So the upgrade _IS_ free from MS.

Well, first you need an original OEM license from Microsoft. The sort hardware-manufacturers get...

It is DISHONEST to post FREE UPGRADE in BOLD and then charge 17 dollars for shipping one DVD. Disgusting.

I totally agree, this is very deceptive advertising. Large companies like Lenovo engage in these practices all the time. Every month or so, you will see a news story about either a state Attorney General or a civil case that awards some massive amount of damages for these practices.
Visa, T-Mobile, etc.
The sad part is that many companies view this as a "cost of doing business." Every once in a while they get dinged for $1 billion or so, but so what? To them, it is more profitable to lie to customers and when they get caught one out of 10 times, then pay out. Meanwhile, they hang onto the cash, make more profits, etc.
But, the truth is that these companies only get away with this to the extent that consumers allow them to.
From reading this message board on this topic, there are many non-Lenovo employees who post apologias for Lenovo, as if the customer is always wrong. That is very strange and surprising.
I feel really bad for the Lenovo employees on here who are truly trying to help (MarkLenovo, for example) because they are fighting a losing battle. Corporate management cut all these corners, and then send these few employees to take a beating on the message boards. Meanwhile, the corporate pezzonavante are making 7 figure salaries thanks to their "brilliant" cost savings measures.

Want to know the best.....I ordered 7 units that were valid under the upgrade, so I said what the heck and ordered the upgrades.
They charged me $114.42USD to ship to Canada and they all came in one envelope!!!
Pretty good huh!!!???

PC Pro has one vendor on record saying that Microsoft has been selling two different SKUs for each version of Vista, and the one with the Windows 7 Free Upgrade voucher costs an additional £10 ($16).

I can't vouch for the £10 part, but the difference here in Norway between the OEM Vista WITH voucher and the one without, was NOK200 (about £15). And that's on a sinlge license, difference is probably less for larger purchases.

Microsoft can charge whatever they want. Presumably, Lenovo was well aware of MS charges when they decided to offer a "Free Upgrade." No, for Lenovo to blame MS is totally baseless.
If you are a Billion dollar corporation like Lenovo, you can chose to offer a "Low Cost Upgrade" to Windows 7, knowing that your supplier will charge more. Or, you can negotiate with the supplier. Or, you can eat the cost. Etcetera, etc.
So, Lenovo is fully responsible for its actions.
Stop passing the buck, message board.
