I totally agree, this is very deceptive advertising. Large companies like Lenovo engage in these practices all the time. Every month or so, you will see a news story about either a state Attorney General or a civil case that awards some massive amount of damages for these practices.
Visa, T-Mobile, etc.
The sad part is that many companies view this as a "cost of doing business." Every once in a while they get dinged for $1 billion or so, but so what? To them, it is more profitable to lie to customers and when they get caught one out of 10 times, then pay out. Meanwhile, they hang onto the cash, make more profits, etc.
But, the truth is that these companies only get away with this to the extent that consumers allow them to.
From reading this message board on this topic, there are many non-Lenovo employees who post apologias for Lenovo, as if the customer is always wrong. That is very strange and surprising.
I feel really bad for the Lenovo employees on here who are truly trying to help (MarkLenovo, for example) because they are fighting a losing battle. Corporate management cut all these corners, and then send these few employees to take a beating on the message boards. Meanwhile, the corporate pezzonavante are making 7 figure salaries thanks to their "brilliant" cost savings measures.
