In April of this year I purchased a fully loaded T400 - $$$$
I was wondering if I could purchase the windows 7 disc with EE
Since I just missed the cut-off of the Free Upgrade....
I have no problem purchasing window 7,
But would like the advantages of having a clean install disk with EE preloaded... Instead of having to download the EE drivers and things from online...
Since you guys say that a clean install does perform better, and that is what I am after...
Please let me know if something can be done thanks
Joe

Not sure if this is the right place to post this, but I have a quick question about the Lenovo Windows 7 Upgrade.
I signed up for the upgrade process reasonably early on. Interested in the new OS due to all the hype, I checked my order status today, not expecting it to have shipped yet, but curious nonetheless. The order status is displayed as "Pending for Payment" Does this mean that I still need to do something, or is this just the case because it has not shipped yet? I have already entered my payment information and am slightly confused.
Thanks

Microsoft's regulations state that we can only ship a Windows recovery CD set equal to the COA on the bottom of the system (with the exception of those machines during the free upgrade program time period). If your system has a Vista COA, we are prohibited from sending you a Win 7 recovery CD set.
Even if we were enabled to sell these recovery CDs, our contract with Microsoft would forbid it.

roangwilliams -- you'll need to call with your order number to find out for sure. Those of us on the board aren't able to check order status.

Hi. You mention calling to check and Lenova seems to have deleted the phone numbers that were on the support page. I'd like to call and ensure I get Windows 7 asap. I too haven't seen a payment but I did provide that information. Thanks, Judyr

wait, did the video imply that the win7 upgrade disk is not the OEM windows 7 update Disk?
i was told on another thread that it would be exactly the same as the Retail Update Disk?

One question. It may be rather fundamental question, I think.
In short, complete, full set of EE, which includes some tweaks not provided by downloadable drivers, is only available within Windows 7 preload image in new machine. Okay, it is not so big problem. Sooner of later I will buy new machine.
But, thanks to Lenovo, new drivers and tools will come out time to time. So, what will happen when I upgrade from the preload driver or tool to new one? The tweak will be still viable? Or the power may be weakened or even vanished? In other word, how long will these tweaks survive? It will remain valid as long as I keep using the preload image adding some changes time to time?

Dear John
Please can you lobby your management to make Windows 7 Recovery & Install Discs available as soon as possible now for ThinkPads sold with Windows Vista during the period 2007-2009. The performance many of us experienced with Vista was terrible, and many of us simply felt terribly let down by this poor ThinkPad experience. My T61 machine hardware is good and will do a bang-up job running Windows 7, even in VM mode for XP. I spent $2,380 on my ThinkPad machine then and had high expectations of what Lenovo had sold me. I would like to actually start using it properly now after waiting for 2 years and struggling with Vista!
I think many of us would wish that Lenovo can show good faith by doing this and making up for our prior disappointment by making these Windows 7 Recovery & Install discs available to us for sale at a reasonable cost. I do not want to buy the regular Windows 7 and lose the ThinkPad added features. I need Lenovo/ThinkPad Windows 7 Recovery & Install Discs!!
I know Lenovo did this for Vista users who felt the need to go backwards to XP for $50-$55 or so because Vista had given so many problems. Please now allow us to go forward to Windows 7 with ThinkPad machines which are very capable of running it, and let us feel new confidence in Lenovo's support of our needs.
Please can you therefore provide a date for availability of Windows 7 Recovery & Install Discs for T61's and other machines as soon as possible.

I do not think that is quite true.
I bought a T61 with Vista Business COA on it, nothing else, no downgrade, nothing.
Nevertheless Lenovo sold me Install & Recovery Discs for XP Professional - at a cost, naturally (~$50). If Lenovo can do this for XP, which was not the original COA, then they can do it for Windows 7 as well. I don't mind paying something reasonable for it, I just need the ThinkPad adidtional software and support. They need to be ThinkPad Windows 7 discs, not generic Microsoft discs. That's why I bought a ThinkPad. I'm in it for the long haul. I bought a 4 year warranty, and so on, on a top-of-the-line machine. It's like buying a Mercedes versus a Neon. We make choices, and we expect the perofmrance and reliaibility. My T61 has been nothing but a pain and low grade experience, and yet I paid top dollar for it. I need rsome ecompense for this poor value from Lenovo to keep my loyalty and buy ThinkPad again in the future.

I would think that would be Microsoft's call. If Microsoft had not allowed Lenovo to release XP Pro to Vista users, they probably would not have done it.
