T61p and Windows 8

Does anyone know if Lenovo will provide drivers for  Windows 8 running on a T61P?

Re: T61p and Windows 8

No one "knows" anything yet.  Plenty of speculation. Just like Windows 7.  Drivers didn't start showing up until the Beta was released.  Beta for Windows 8 is still a very long time off.

Follow the Windows 8 drivers thread.  We're all experimenting.  I have it running well on an x41 tablet with the native windows 8 drivers and a few windows 7 drivers that aren't even for this model of tablet.

Don't know about Lenovo's plans.  I have W8 64 bit running on a T61.  All I did was throw the Win 8 ISO at it.  Didn't install any other drivers.

What specific drivers are you interested in?  I'm happy to have an excuse to fiddle a little more.

Re: T61p and Windows 8

You can pretty much bet that Lenovo won't be developing any W8 drivers for T61/p platform.

That being said, Vista drivers can be tweaked pretty well.

I have Developer's Preview running on both T43p and T60p, and got everything to work the way I wanted it to. Given that T61 is a newer machine, there should be no issues whatsoever.

Cheers,

George

Re: T61p and Windows 8

You can probably force some newer drivers such as Catalyst/Verde or the Intel Rapid Storage drivers. Such is the effort of maintaining an EOL product.

The Win 7 drivers should all work with Win 8.

Re: T61p and Windows 8

You wouldn't by any chance have a link to the Win7 drivers for the DVD CD-RW drive, would you? I can't find simple "these make the optical drive work with windows" drivers anywhere and Win 8 is whining about not having said drivers when I try to install it.

All I can find is the driver for DOS/Win 3.1 and the firmware update utility.

Hi Blze001,

You shouldn't need a driver for the DVD drive.

Often this error message is caused by a bad ISO download, or a bad burn.  Have you tried re-downloading the ISO?  Does the checksum match?

Here's a MS article about other things to check, and a link to a checksum verifier.  I use MD5Summer.

Installing Windows 8 error msg: A DVD driver your PC needs is missing.

[edit] typos and add burn.

[more edit] MS aritcle link.

Re: T61p and Windows 8

[ Edited ]

I'm running win8 enterprise RTM on my 6457Y5J t61p.

Everything runs smooth way faster than Windows 7. The only thing failing so far is the Ricoh SD 4 in 1 card reader. Has anybody resolved this issue? I installed the Windows XP SP3 7kss55www.exe drivers but still I'm not getting anything.

Anybody having luck with different drivers?

Thanks in advance

Re: T61p and Windows 8

Hello,

Perhaps the drivers for Windows Vista, instead?  I think I had to install those under Windows 7 to get the Ricoh 4-in-1 card reader to work.
