Installing Windows XP on the X61 from a thumb drive

Symptoms

Consider the following scenario 

You  to install XP pro sp3 on an  X61 tablet, but every time you get a BSOD with a 0x0000007B error. 

You have tried to 

1) change  the BIOS Sata mode from ACHI to  compatibility
2) Copied an installation of XP to  a virtual machine 

3) Slipstreamed  ICH8M SATA drivers during the XP setup process

Diagnosis

X61 tablets running Windows XP
