Hello,
please take a look at this XP clean install guide. It´s for T/R/X61 but most procedures also work anX200.
Especially for turning back to SATA mode, driver after XP installation.

Tell you what, I spent the best part of 3 hours trying to get around this issue without a USB floppy or HDD. All I wanted for Christmas was XP!
Thanks all for the genious answers. I'm now well on my way to installing it.
I will post back later on with any abnormalities, should they occur - which I'm sure they will!

This is the way to do this.
change the sata controllor to compability.
install xp sp3.
after installation install the Intel matrix storage manager from the driver page http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-70
reboot and change the sata controllor to ahci again. The driver will be automatically installed.
install .net from the ms site.
install system update from the lenovo site.
run system update.
after this installation there are still some drivers missing.
wifi, bluetooth, modem, and two pci devices.
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-70
but the tricky thing is the two pci devices.
for this one you need first to install this one
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-70
and after reboot you install this one
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/MIGR-70
Now you can update xp with all the necessary updates. and you're done.
there are still some missing tools like active protection but this you can download from the site too!

okay, new X200, trying XP get bluescreen.
1. can't use XP/f6 and floppy to install driver.
2. using "Compatability" mode DOES NOT WORK. Still get bluescreen.
My WinXP Pro disk does not have SP's... is this why?
Is the nLite route another option? Never used it... but will try to figure out if i must.
Cheers.

Hi,
Yes, nLite is a good option. It worked for me with Acer notebook with almost no XP support.
