A couple of Thinkpad X200 Tablet Questions

Hi all,

This started of as an email to direct to Lenovo, but after 1 hour of going through there various websites only to discover they don't seem to have an online contact form or a public email address.

So I am hoping someone here can help me with my questions.

I have a few questions regarding the IBM/Lenovo Thinkpad x200 Tablet (7450-R93).

I am aware that this is not your current model and they have been superseded by the x201 model.

The x200’s “touchscreen”, I cannot seem to find any precise details regarding the type of touch screen technology used in these units.

What type of touch technology is used in the x200: Resistive, SAW, Capacitive, Hybrid Capacitive or something else?

If we were to purchase a lot of between 5-10 brand new units from the USA, is the warranty offered an international warranty?

Do you still produce/sell accessories for this model: specifically batteries and do you make a case for this unit that enables table use while still in the case?

Sorry I was to slack to rewrite the email that I prepared to send. ;-)

Cheers,

Matt

I own a x200t but not THAT x200t you are looking for, so i don't know. But i can tell you that when it comes to the digitizer option on a x200t you have basicaly 3 options:

1) you only have an active digitizer (wacom made) that can be used with the included stylus.

2) you have the wacom digitize + the passive-resistive digitizer. The latter can be used with your finger.

3)wacom+passive capacitive multitouch digitizer.

The fact is that the first x200t models ha the reistive option only. But the last x200t also implemented the wacom capacitive multitouch one.

From what i know ALL lenvo thinpad tablet (x200t or x201t) are sold ONLY with internationa warranty. It doesn't depend on the number  of units you want to purchase.

The accessories are the same fr x200t and x201t. Same are the batteries (8cell or 4 cell), same is the stylus and same is the bumpcase. For the case you are lokking for take a look at this: http://shop.lenovo.com/SEUILibrary/controller/e/web/LenovoPortal/en_US/catalog.workflow:item.detail?...

Thanks Night for the quick response.

Is there any way to tell which model is which before we commit to the purchase?

"Is there any way to tell which model is which before we commit to the purchase?"

You mean to tell which kinf of "digitizer" configuration has before purchase?

If so, well it is a hard question and i think it also depends on where you buy it.

First i will describe you my little purchase experience. I bought my x200t in september on ebay.it and i did not manage to know what kind of screen-digitizer had until i opened the box and tried it out after the purchase. When i did so i found out that i had the 400nit dispplay (good!) and only the wacom active digitizer.

3 possible ways to became aware of the "screen-digitizer" configuration could be:

1) test it in first person :-)

2) ask someone who has the SAME x200t, in your case the 7450-R93. In the control panel->system windows there are information about the presence of pen or touch input or both.

3) if you can see some picture of the actual unit you are buying you could detect some information. E.g. The presence of the first passive-resisteve digitizer is clearly detectable because the screen with that digitizer has the frame at same "level" of the LCD panel.

Back to september 2010 i was not able to find on any site (by lenovo or others) the exact "screen-digitizer" configuration of my x200t.

Re: A couple of Thinkpad X200 Tablet Questions

The X200t with the capacitive multitouch LCD are called Enhanced Multitouch.  I think and I'm not 100% sure, if you go through the tabook, the X200t labeled "multitouch" are the ones with the two finger touch while the ones labeled "touch" are the resistive touch screens.  Perhaps someone else more learned than I can confirm this?

If you go through the tabook you can see which have the capacitive screen if it's a pre-configured model.  In the US the Enhanced Multitouch was offered as a configurable option and there's probably no way to know if it's a CTO model  I suppose you could ask.  I'm not sure if it's the same for Austrailia or Italy.  Good Luck.

Re: A couple of Thinkpad X200 Tablet Questions

Are all X200t CTO models equipped with enhanced multi-touch?  Or is it just an option?

CTO means configured-to-order. It is an option

Re: A couple of Thinkpad X200 Tablet Questions

Yes indeed, I am using this SLEEVE for my X200T and it is really great!

For the first weeks of use, it is a bit rigid and looks weird but then it gets softer and this is really ok.

You can even use your X200 with the high capacity battery, there is space enough. When you use the "standard" battery, you are provided with a small cushion to fit the empty space... waw :smileywink:

Re: A couple of Thinkpad X200 Tablet Questions

hi guys....

I found you were discusing about the x200t touch screen...So I have a small question (but a big one for me) about the screen.

I have a x200t with single touch (means work only with the pen, no finger). My questions are

# Can I change the display module with a multi touch one ?

# Do I need change only LCD or the cable also ?

# if possible anybody please give me the suitable multi touch screen FRU ?

pleaseeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
