Rescue and Recovery wont install

I tried to do a system update (massive, new computer, lots of updates.) And it kept hanging on the new version of R&R with the message "nspect Application has encountered a problem and needs to close." I get that message about 8 times and then the install fails. Worse, the one I have now keeps giving me the message that it has encountered an unexpected termination (C++ library). I tried uninstalling and reinstalling directly (downloading tvtrnr42_1016en.exe, no go, same problem. Basically hosed, woudl love to have this on my machine....

PS: Rescue and Recovery wont install

X61 7764 CTO XPSP3

I rolled back to 4., and installed the updates for that version, and started getting the C++ termination error. Then tried to install 4.2 over it, and got nspect error 11 times during installation.

Re: Rescue and Recovery wont install

I found this thread:

http://forums.lenovo.com/lnv/board/message?board.id=Special_Interest_Utilities&thread.id=242&view=by...

And it explains that for some reason RNR 4.2 uses a mapped drive during install (Z:smileyhappy:. My install failed due to that being previously mapped. I logged in as an admin to a local machine account, unplugged all unnecessary devices, and undocked, and then ran system update, installing RNR4.2. No problems!

Re: Rescue and Recovery wont install

dbh369,

Will you (or someone else) explain what you mean by a "mapped drive"? I have had trouble with the Lenovo RnR (it disappeared) and re-instated it - somehow. That is, I downloaded a file suggested by the Atlanta center and ran that to do so. However, I use a stand-alone x61t that does not connect to an Ultrabase; I do  sometimes have an external drive attached by either FireWire or USB.

Boy that Firewire connector is fussy! Any tiny amount of movement in the cord and the drive pops in and out of view to the OS.

Thanks, in advance.
