Re: ThinkPad X201t with 16 gigs of RAM!

well, the i3 CPU of my friend's X201 work with 16 gigs, and the i5 of my cousin's T410 is also working fine with 16 gigs.

So i guess the answer from what i have tried is yes, it works with all i3, i5, i7 CPU.

Re: ThinkPad X201t with 16 gigs of RAM!

This information is a bit misleading.

You can indeed install 2x 8GB into your x201. And possibly even see in Win32bit, however it WONT work in Win64. I tried at least 5 different memory manufacturers and they all have same issues with x201s - windows 64x never starts, reinstall does work etc. A pity though :smileysad:

Re: ThinkPad X201t with 16 gigs of RAM!

Are you saying that you have 2x 8GB sticks and you can start Win 64 without BSOD's and it shows up as 16GB and the system is stable? That contradicts with Intel specs.

Can you please give me the precise model name of your Patriot sticks?

Re: ThinkPad X201t with 16 gigs of RAM!

Yes my X201t works okay with the 16 gigs of ram.

Intel spec use to list the T61's santa rosa chipset as supporting 2 x 2 gigs ram, when in fact it can support 2 x 4 gigs.

I will give to you when i get back to Australia, i am travelling right now. I only got my X230 and X220t with me.

Re: ThinkPad X201t with 16 gigs of RAM!

Well, in the meanwhile I have bought the Patriot 16GB Kit - PSD316G1333SK to no avail. The memory is behaving same like other 5 types I tried. The system sees it, but Windows 7 64Bit does not start at all.

So I guess it is safe to make a conclusion that in case of x20x the 16GB is not supported in 64bit memory. The example of other chipset supporting 8GB does not work here because in that case you could put it ANY 4x 2 SODIMMs and it worked. Here at least 5 types of memory didnt. I doubt it is up to a very specific type of memory as of those 5 I tried they had different specs.

Guess its time for a new x230..

Re: ThinkPad X201t with 16 gigs of RAM!

I wonder if this is an OS issues. If Win 32bit can see it and run, and the computer boots it sounds like the chipset supports it. Kromulator, what version of Win 7 x64 bit are you running? Lead_org, what version are you running?

I know starter & home basic only support 8GB of RAM, but I would imagine Kromulator has home premium or better.

I tried so far with all those 5 types I mentioned. Windows 7 64 Ultimate Windows 2008 R2 64 Windows 8 RC and CP Lead_org - what mark do you have of the Patriot?

Have you had a chance to check your Modules specs/part number?

I have done a deep research in whether there are any notebooks models with L640 or LM640 i7 that supported 16GB and could not find a single case of 16GB working in 64bit OS without any issues. Can you maybe put on full specs of your config please?
