My x220t, core i7 has 8gb of RAM installed, but it says that only 6.30 is available. How can I make it so that all of it is available? What is the cause of this? Thanks

okay. system information is using a difference definition of "available" than you are perhaps considering.
What GMAC-R60 said is part of the answer. The other part is that system information lists as "available" the memory that isn't already in use. As in, you have 8GB, and of that, 1.7GB is in use, so you have 6.3GB left or "available." I hope this helps.
The only way to increase your "available" memory is to shut down programs you aren't actively using and reduce the number of programs that start automatically when you boot up.
