Just hooked up my monitor and docking station. This also happens when the laptop is docked! The sign-in is sideways on the external monitor. Windows 7 comes up sideways, and then it all flips to be normal landscap on the monitory.
Any thoughts?

I still have the warranty, I guess a call into Lenovo support is the next step.

Hi there,
My X201 tablet does the same thing right from out of the box. When I'm starting it in standard laptop mode, all the booting process is displayed in primary landscape (this is OK). When it comes to the Windows login screen, the display stay in primary landscape for a second but it switch to primary portrait before I can hit the keyboard. However, after I logon the display switch back to normal in primary landscape. This happens only at the login screen and no matter when I'm in laptop or tablet mode.
FYI, my Auto Screen Rotation settings available under Tablet Shortcut Menu Settings of ThinkVantage Tablet Utility are set to :
[ X ] Upon switching to tablet mode, automatically set screen orientation to: Primary Portrait
[ ] Enable ActiveRotate
I have also downloaded the latest version of Thinkpad Tablet Button Driver for Windows 64 bits (v1.03) through System Update and that didn't resolve the problem.

Installing the latest Button drivers worked for me also
Just google 'x201 lenovo drivers' click on the appropriate Lenovo link, then search for 'buttons' and follow Lenovo's instructions to install the driver. It was v1.04 that worked for me.
At the time of writing this, the appropriate links were
