Hi:
I just wanted to join the group with the x61 battery failure. Mine died in July just before its second birthday. I was so confident with the battery that I went to present to a group of hockey goalies without my wall plug. You can imagine my situation. The group was not enthused. It crashed and never started again without the plug. I'm looking for an 8 cell replacement with no luck so far. For a few weeks the computer said the battery had power but it would not work without being plugged in. Eventually the computer said it had no charge left.
Any ideas let me know.

Just chiming in with more evidence of the problem with FRU 93P5032: I have one of these batteries in an X61 tablet, and it was getting about 4.5 hours of charge just yesterday. Today, the battery is inoperable, and gets the "Battery cannot be charged" message. The laptop has been sitting on my desk for days, and it wasn't jostled in any way.
Very frustrating, as I travel often with the laptop, and typically work while I'm in transit (and there isn't an outlet available).
Since this seems like a product defect, rather than a death due to natural wear and tear, I hope Lenovo will do the graceful thing and replace these defective parts, whether or not they are under a current warranty.
Also, re the post about "Battery 42T5209": My battery has FRU # 93P5032, and ASM # 42T5209. So I assume we are all talking about the same battery here.

OK, I've just gone from being a previously-satisfied customer of Lenovo, hopeful for a reasonable response based on Lenovo's reputation for quality service...
... to an OUTRAGED customer of Lenovo, who will be sharing his experience with Lenovo to all the friends and family who depend on his advice when purchasing a computer (since he is a computer engineer).
My experience was the following:
I phoned Lenovo support to tell them that I'd had the problem described in this forum with FRU 93P5032, and to direct them to this thread to inform them that a large number of people also seemed to have the same problem. Since the problem did not seem to be an issue of a battery dying from normal wear-and-tear, but rather from a defect (with identical symptoms to many recalled batteries - sudden "Battery cannot be charged" error, etc), I requested that my battery be replaced.
I was told that my battery could not be replaced under warranty, since it was not under warranty.
I explained that I knew the battery was not under warranty, but was asking that it be replaced as a defective product that was recalled would be replaced. As I understood it, recalled products were eligible to be replaced regardless of the status of the warranty, since it was the manufacturer's defects which caused them to fail.
I was then told that they would only handle warranty replacements, that there was no number I could call to discuss a defective product - and that there was no system that allowed them to even report that I had experienced a product I suspected was defective.
I asked how Lenovo would ever learn of a defective product that needed to be replaced, if none of the calls placed by customers reporting defects could ever be recorded? At that point, I was told to "have a nice day" and disconnected.
This happened twice, identically. (Including the hang up.)
I was polite and calm on the phone both times, but I am now furious. I expect a response to this post from Lenovo that seeks to amend what has happened.

Any Suggestions for a Good Replacment battery for the FRU 93P5032 ASM 42T5209.
i have the same battery failure and also missed the Recall, i replaced the batter with another 93P5032 and it was dead within 12months. i haven't really bothered with replacing it since it died again because i've been using another laptop but i would like to start using the X61 again as it is a Awesome Tablet.
Does anyone have a suggestion for a replacement battery that will last? or at least be a imprvment from the 93P5032?

Same thing here. My battery suddenly failed last year and at I did a search saying that there was a recall and I had missed my opportunity to get a new battery.
With the bubbles and the battery and the goo oozing out of my screen, I don't know how much more of Lenovo I can take before I buy a Mac. I'll get laughed out of my engineering classes for having one, but at least I'll have a laptop I can take with me versus a laptop that has to be permantly plugged in at home.
