Wireless goes to heck when docked

I searched and looked and can't find a solution.  When the X61 Tablet is undocked, wireless connectivity is 54mbs, 99% signal strength, websites are just popping up fine.  Place it into the ultrabase and connectivity drops to 2mbs, 85% connections are spotty at best.  It can't be designed to work like this, can it?  Am I missing something obvious?  As soon as I find my Motorola router I'll bridge it but until then we have to stay undocked.  Any advice?
