Hi Everyone,
X41 Tablet, WinXP, Model 1866-ED5
I am having problems restoring my X41 Tablet from the Recovery CD. I have an Acronis backup, but would like to go back to factory defaults.
Background.
First tried to restore from the built in Rescue and Recovery – blue Access IBM button. That failed immediately. Had to restore from my Acronis backup.
I created the Recovery CD in WinXP from the ThinkVantage menu item – creating 1 CD. After booting from the CD, tried restoring again, this time files were being copies to the disk, copying the Predesktop Installer files. After about 5-10 minutes, I receive a pop-up stating “There was an error during initialization”
I rebooted and received the message “Remove disks or other media, Press any key to continue.
Now, booting back into the Recovery CD, using the Opera browser, C drive has the following files:
MiniNT – directory
Preboot – directory
Recovery – directory
fcopy.ini – file
NTDETECT.COM – file
psp.tag – file
For what it’s worth, X drive (Recovery CD) has:
I386 – directory
PREBOOT – directory
WIN51 – file
WIN51P – file
WIN51P.SP2 – file
And Z drive has:
preboot – directory
Comdlgfix.reg – REG file
OPERADEF6.ADR – ADR file
parallel.cmd – Windows NT Command Script
PEAccessIBM.LOG – LOG file
serial.cmd – Windows NT Command Script
C drive has no boot.ini or ntldr files. Not sure what to try next, other than to restore from my Acronis backup. Any suggestions??
Update, using a WinXP CD, booted into the recovery console and created a boot.ini file, added the ntldr file, both in c:\, still get the remove disks message.
