x200 Tablet screen vs. Toshiba A600?

After a bad experience with a Lenovo Outlet x200s (discovered fmachine was used, not "redistributed", and had non-working WiFi, so had to return it), I am thinking about trying again, this time with a new x200 Tablet, CCFL-backlit.  I'm inclining toward the Tablet because I've read it has a high-quality, high-contrast AFFS screen instead of the cheap TN screen in the x200.  In my mid-50s, my eyesight is not what it was, so I've decided screen quality is important.  I am thinking about the CCFL version because I've read complaints that the LED backlit version "blinks" at 90hz (pulse width modulation used to adjust brightness), producing severe eyestrain in some individuals.

Anyway, my question is, has anyone been able to compare the x200 Tablet screen (preferably CCFL-backlit version) to that of the Toshibe Portege A600 or A605?  Are the contrast and brightness comparable or better?  I ask because I have not seen the x200 Tablet, but I have had the opportunity to try a A605-P210.  The keyboard of the A605 is reasonable, although not as good as the TP, but its screen is actually pretty good--better viewing angles than the x200s and a lot better contrast.  It's bright, as it's LED-backlit, but apparently has a sufficiently fast PWM frequency so as not to cause eyestrain.  The A605 is a bit on the flimsy side and lacks the trackpoint; but, it weighs less than the x200 Tablet and has an internal DVD.  So, unless the screen of the x200 Tablet is better yet, I probably should stop with the A605.

Thanks for any info.

i don't think many people here use the Toshiba A600. Actually most people wouldn't have both the X200t or Toshiba A600.

Re: x200 Tablet screen vs. Toshiba A600?

I'm hoping that someone has seen both the x200 tablet and the Portege A600.  I'm in the San Francisco Bay Area; but, even with stores like Frys and Best Buy all around, I have been unable to find a store that actually has the x200 Tablet on display.

Re: x200 Tablet screen vs. Toshiba A600?

I would stick with the older tech CCFL backlight. Newer technology isn't perfected yet (this is why my Cathode tube tv outlived my hd tv :smileytongue: )

CCFL will do you plenty good. I believe the only thing LED has over CCFL is battery life and a little bit more brightness, and possibly just maybe lifespan. Either laptop you choose will be good quailty. Im 15 and owned several types of laptops. IBM/Lenovo and Toshiba are on par in terms of qualitiy. b

CCFL contains mercury so environment should also weighs into the overall consideration as well.

Toshiba was a great brand, but now they are just chasing profit, the quality of their laptop is way below what they use to offer. I wouldn't want a toshiba if someone gives it to me.

Re: x200 Tablet screen vs. Toshiba A600?

Thanks to those who commented.  I've gone with the Toshiba A605-P210, at least for now.  While I liked the Thinkpad x-Series years ago when it was still IBM (used a x21), I have not been able to see the x200 Tablet in person, and I did not at all like my experience with the abortive x200s purchase.  No one here seems to have seen both the x200 Tablet and the A600 screen; so, I'll go with what I have been able to determine--the Toshiba A600 has a reasonably nice screen, certainly better than the x200s (which I have seen), and I can live with the keyboard.  It also weighs less than the x200 Tablet, and has an internal DVD.  The A605-P210 is also available locally, so I can return it, if necessary.
