x201 pen and touch are kind of messed up since update

[ Edited ]

Hi guys,

few days ago i updated my system (x201 tablet w/ multitouch) with lenovo's update utility and installed all the normal windows7 updates. And a lot was messed up since then. most of it i could fix with google, or re-installing the drivers.. but here are two things i couln't fix, and I hope someone could help.

Note: I've got the latest drivers installed and re-installed them several times.

Before I start here are some changes I recognized.

In my Systempanel under the category "Hardware and Sound" there are two new things wich wasn't there before. One is called "Touch-Properties" and the otherone "Pen Tablet-Properties".

1.)

I am not able to re-calibrate my touchscreen. If I do it as I was used to following happens:

- I am opening "Tablet PC-Properties" from the system Panel -> Hardware and sound.

- pressing "calibration" for Touch

- I get the error Mesage: "A supportet touchscreen was not found on the system."

Multitouch is still working. but is a little off. So I wish i could calilbrate it.

2.)

My Pen behaves like a mouse. Wich means the eraser does not work. And the pen-button behaves differently. When I press the button while i am hovering over the screen. It produces a right click.

When I am pressing the pen down, no right click circle appears.

Anyway, when I want to calibrate my pen following happens:

- I am opening "Tablet PC-Properties" from the system Panel -> Hardware and sound.

- pressing "calibration" for pen

- the "Pen Tablet-Properties" program opens (same as the new one i mentioned before).

Now i can calibrate my Pen with this new software (which is Version 7.0.2-19 btw.)

In this Program I can change some settings, like:

-- Activate Eraser or how the right-click should behave (hovering or click&touch).

It doesn't matter what i enable or disable, my pen behavoir does not change.

It still behaves like a normal mouse. Which is PRETTY anoying when you use "Journal" or "OneNote".

does anyone has an idea how to fix it? I hope my problem description was kind of understandable and not too confusing :-)

I even tried to downgrade my divers, but i couldn't find any old ones.

best regards

Ben

-------------------

EDIT:

I ALMOST fixed the pen-problem.

Read somewhere to download the "Tablet-PC" Drivers from WACOM Hompage (isd701-8_int.exe), which i did.

Now at least the pen works like a pen again (which means... eraser and right click now works like it supposed to. BUT:

I am still not able to re-calibrate pen and touch...still get: A supportet touchscreen was not found on the system.

And now "Pen Tablet Properties" is now shown as: "ISD Tablet Properties". And when i try to open it i get an error: "No Tablett driver found".

Ok. I solved it.

for all who encouter the same stuff here is how I did it:

- deinstall drivers ONCE AGAIN!

(I went to: control panel, deinstall, ISD Tablett drivers, restart)

- Then I deleted the folder "C:\program files\Tablett" in there are the driver remainings which wasn't deleted through the deinstall.

- To be sure I went to Hardware-Manager. On the top there was an unknown device, wich is the just deinstalled Wacom multitouch device. I deinstalled it once again though the Hardware-Manager (which is probably useless... nevertheless this is what I did).

After another restart I installed the newest multitouch drivers (7.02-19) which i downloaded from lenovos homepage... DO NOT USE LENOVOS UPDATE TOOL.. It didn't work for me.

After the install, another quick restart and violá it worked. :-)

Pen and Touch works. I can calibrate everything and can open Touch and Pen preferences in control-panel.

bye

This solution worked for me too!

However, some symptoms were not the same. Below is a description of the symptoms I experienced which I fixed using the solution Hyst provided. I hope this will help more people having the same problem find this solution.

I got the problem after I updated MultiTouch Driver from version 3.0.7.13 to 7.0.2.19 using System Update 4.01.0015

Symptoms 1 and 3 are the same as the one Hyst described in is first post for his pen behaving like a mouse. 2 and 4 are additionnal symptoms I've found for the same problem. However, I didn't had problems calibrating the pen nor the touch screen but I had some hassles with pen and touch input display selection. This was happening when running in extended desktop mode. Sometimes it was right, sometimes not.

  1. Incorrect right-click behavior. The right-click action is performed without having to press pen side-button and tap the screen regardless of the right-click option selected in "Control Panel - Pen Tablet Properties - Pen - Advanced". It always performs a hover-click which is not compatible with some software feature like OneNote Lasso tool.
  2. Ink looks like crap in OneNote. Lines looks rough ans jagged even with the softest tip feel setting. Once you finish writing a word and raising the pen, it's worse. Look at this image [before|after]: EDIT: I found this could be related to another issue (read below)
  3. My pointer cursor is always an arrow even when I use the stylus as a pointing device. Where is the litte star cursor.
  4. Applications such as Sticky Notes does not recognize the stylus as a pen input. It's just like using Sticky Notes with a mouse.

Using the solution:

  • The solution worked for me without deleting the "C:\program files\Tablet" folder. However, before uninstalling the ISD driver using "Uninstall a Program" in Control Panel I used -Remove All Settings (for all users)- from the "Hardware and Sounds" - "Touch Settings" and also from "Pen and Tablet Properties".
  • Verified for "unknown device" in "Device Manager" [checked]
  • Restart the system [checked]
  • Re-install the latest driver manually (not with "System Update") [checked]
  • Restart again [checked]
  • Verified my pen is no longer working like a mouse (cursor, right-click and "Sticky Notes" work normally) [checked]
  • Ink is now smooth as before in OneNote [checked]    (EDIT: However not so good in Extended Desktop Mode. but better than before the driver re-install...)

EDIT: Regarding the rough ink problem in OneNote running in extended desktop mode, read my other post on the subject.

Re: x201 pen and touch are kind of messed up since update

I run into the same problem of pen function lost.

I also get additional problem of the Window 7 not showing the 'screen keyboard' on log-in page. Window 7 seems do not know the x201 is a tablet.

Betreff: x201 pen and touch are kind of messed up since update

Hello

Thanks for the solution. Also, another symptom that I had was that in portrait mode the tablet computer thought that I put the pen on the screen somewhere else. In simpler terms, the computer sensed my pen's location incorrectly, at about a 90 degree angle off. However, when I put my pen in the middle of the screen, the computer aligns correctly, except a little it is a little left. Thanks again.

Worked for me also.

The ink is smooth again on OneNote.

Thank you so much, it was really annoying to take notes on the previous conditions.

Betreff: x201 pen and touch are kind of messed up since update

Thanks a million for this forum-entry!!! You not only saved my day but my entire week!

Having worked lately mostly with a large external screen I had noticed some "deteriation" in my X201t's pen behavior but I hadn't fully realized just how bad things had turned.

After an accident causing a broken hand with subsequent surgery and having to wear a plaster for several weeks being able to operate my system entirely by pen was suddenly not only a luxury or a cool gag but become a necessity! And that missing pen functionality initially drove me nuts! So glad I found this append! Now things are back to normal - at least re. pen input.

Cheers and thanks again,

Michael

Which driver are you installing from Lenovo?  The Mutlitouch or the Wacom Pen driver??

Thanks.

Worked on one computer, didn't work on the next two.

Exact same machines, exact same set ups.

Any thoughts?
