I'm glad I found this forum. The feedback on topics has been exceptional.

I have been in the market for a desk top replacement for about 2 months now.

My brother turned me on the x200t over the New Year holiday and I love the tablet functionality.

I've been waiting for the next offering as he mentioned then was was probably due. 

With the x201t I'm disappointed to see the lack of HDMI and firewire ports with that R11 modem still there taking up space. 

Anyone with any insight on when HDMI and firewire may become available on the laptop?

HDMI might come on the X202t.  They're not going to change course midstream and offer it on the X201t.  It's kind of hard to say at this point.  I don't see firewire coming as when the X202t is released, or whatever it's called, USB 3 will be in full swing.
