I'm configuring an order for a maxed x220 tablet.
I really want a large (512gb or higher SSD). Since that's not a factory option I guess I'll have to go aftermarket, open the case and do a home upgrade. I've done plenty of drive upgrades before but not an SSD.
My review of message board makes it seem like there can be fit problems with some SSDs in the x220, and that with SSDs in general you should do a clean install and not a full clone (with OS). That always raises issues with drivers and QA'ing the install to make sure you got it all back to factory fresh.
I've read the posts about using a smaller SSD in the extra slot as a boot drive and keeping files on HDD, but I would really like to have everything on the faster media.
So my question is, are there any x220 tablet owners out there that have self-installed large SSDs. Any tips, warnings or reassurances?
Thx

HI,
I installed Intel 320 SSD (160 Gb) and used Acronis to clone the previous drive. It worked well.
What may be of greater interest to you, is that I had to remove a black spacer attached to the SSD to make it 7mm from 9.5mm.
It can be easily done with Intel SSDs (except 510, I think), but you will have to order shorter screws online. Just search Google or this forum for screws for Intel SSD.
Good luck!
