1 GB memory on a X30

Hi! I´v got an old as the dinosaurs IBM X30  with original 256 MB RAM. Great machine by all means, but I would like to have more RAM. (Of course) Max amount of RAM is 1 GB, so then I bought 1 GB split on 2 512 MB modules from Apacer - and now the machine hangs on boot, the screen displays vertical stripes in different colors and start to flicker. And the nothing more happens....

Booooring...

I tried to take out one of the modules but the same thing happens, I upgraded the BIOS, tried to re-install, but no luck at all....

Any ideas? And please forgive the poor English - I´m Norwegian :smileysurprised:)

Best regards

Re: 1 GB memory on a X30

I am not 100% certain, but I suspect that the X30 requires so-called "low density" SDRAM modules and that the 512MB modules you have are are incompatible "high density."

IBM/Lenovo specifies, "19K4656/19K4657 3.3 Volt, 144-pin, non-parity, 64-bit, 133 MHz SDRAM memory." Are you sure that's exactly what you have installed?

P.S. Your English is very good -- especially compared to my Norwegian :smileywink:

Re: 1 GB memory on a X30

Hi Hausman!
Thank you very much for the advice. I was not aware of that difference. I used an autoselect-function from one store, and then just ordered from an other what I believed to be the same type, witch is apparently is not right after all.
I´ll return the modules and replace them with the hopefully right type - and then we´ll see :-)

Once again - thank you very much!

Best regards
