Anybody uses LoJack? I cannot enable the hardware anti-theft feature

[ Edited ]

Hi everyone,

I have brought a Lojack service that should be working with the BIOS and Intel AT technology. But I installed it, and turns out it works like on normal machines. I mean, the Intel AT status showed "not enrolled", in bios all stuff under Anti-Theft are deactivated.

My ThinkPad is X220, with Win7 x64 installed.Every driver and software is up-to-date.

Anybody know how to enable the hardware based anti-theft feature?

Thank you

Lojack is Computrace, not AT. You need to turn computrace on in the bios under security. You should see a Computrace warning if you try to enter the bios.

Thanks , yes Computrace is now activated. But the LoJack supports Intel AT (for sure, I have consulted their pre-purchase), which I am not able to get it activated yet. Any thought on that?

Re: Anybody uses LoJack? I cannot enable the hardware anti-theft feature

they just bought the name lojack.
nothing to do with lojack.
the service differs as to trace and find.
you get what you pay for with them.
intel anti theft is different thing.
normally computrace and alike make a special part on the hard drive and use a form of boot on lan via a majic packet then use that to take snapshots of data.
they can trace it sometimes with the wifi or the lan or if it has gobi or sort.
depends.
there a huge lawsuit over some guy who took snaps of a teacher who bought a stolen one from a kid then did some sexing lol or camming on it.
funny story lol.
if you have a expensive laptop over a grand or two then it makes sence most of all if your in tent city doing the protests...lol.
it dont make sence if it a cheap model because if it get cliped the price plus the fact you wont see it back soon due to court case plus you have to go to court makes it really about clean data and wipe.
you dont want your info getting nicked right so coputrace can clean it for you and that alone may be worth it.

bad thing is it has to go to pc maker or been itstalled and some pc makers make you wait 3 weeks to get a notebook with it.
the trace service is extra.
it could be used by big brother.
you have to buy a factory ssd option to have a ssd option and that is very expensive.

in a dorm or a place like a office that not secure where a notebook gets left around this is a great option.
in a home where the chances are of getting nicked i would just get a hardheld tool writing pen that marks right into a notebook but remeber privicy a concern allways.
last thing you may want is someone finding out you have a bunch of DRM vilations or some ex gf pics or something you rather not let someone know.
people dont really think twice what on a notebook or the fact they have zero expectation of pricicy outside there home.
i would factor in all that before thinking of it or just have it render the notebook useless.

Re: Anybody uses LoJack? I cannot enable the hardware anti-theft feature

lol intel is intel own thing nothing to do with them.

the lojack is a way to send data via majic packet to the wake on lan feature.
you know pc anywhere.
so they can send a message delete all data distroy the bios.
render it usless.
the data is hidden on a hidden part on the hard drive.
this is nothing new.
windows allways had this.
no snake oil at all.
all pc makers do this and put there driver back up and so on the hard drive and the recovery.
hidden partitions why the disk is smaller.

lojack basic is that.distroy data.
the advanced is they trace it.
they take web cam snaps and desktops snaps same way u do of the guy while he uses the pc.
they record his isp.
they get a court order from the police and then grab the records of where that last place is.
depending on the poliice if they do that.
and if it has gobi watch out they grab him surfing right in starbucks or outside if he war driving.
they can record details of who he talk to and build a case.

no snake oil here windows can do all this.
easy as pie.
now if they change the hard drive well thats where it gets sbake oil like.
slippery as snot really.
they dont know lenovo put a little hidden thing in there that will allow them to grab back the softwate onto a clean disk.

now the theif thinks he safe when he not cause lojack just got a call from your pc saying hi i have new hard drive would you like to arrest me.
lol.

the intel thing is just a buch of hidden codes that if the guy try to break up the parts he still get caught.
oh great i get a box of parts back i so thrilled,
thanks intell.
i would rather got the insurance money.

lojack just dose what whats allways been in windows they just do it for you.
contact the police and say tommy has lojack blah blah here our web page grab him if you like.

it all up to the police.
that means they grab him and your laptop and put it in a nice clear bag and you see it after the court case if over.

could be weeks,could be months.
could even be like the many laptops the TSA grabs every day sitting in a wherehouse for over a year.

yea can lojack get your laptop back from the TSA?
obama promised that they speed it up.
i wont hold my breath.

get insurance it better and add govt theft to the list.
what a 2000 doller laptop worth 18 month later.
250 bucks mayby.

intel some years back put seriel number on cpu and everyone screamed big brother.
there doing it again to stop prirates and catch bad guys in caves.
aside from that it wont stop guys snaching laptops from parking lots one bit.

Absolutely, positively INCORRECT.
Computrace has NOTHING to do with hard drive. It's located in BIOS.
It also works only if the machine is running a Windows OS.
I own five ThinkPads with Computrace, orion9727...please refrain from posting on subjects that you have little or no experience with...such as ThinkPads in general...pretty please...:smileywink:
