Date resets: CMOS battery?

I recently bought a refurbished x61s.  If I remove the battery when the power cord is not connected, the date re-sets to 1988.  All is OK when I manually re-set the date, and if either battery or power cord is attached, nothing happens.  Does this indicate a dying CMOS battery?

Thanks,

Hoge

Sounds like it. It's not too expensive to replace, which is nice.

Re: Date resets: CMOS battery?

Thanks, Colonel.

Funny thing.  I took out the keyboard and there is no CMOS battery!  Just sent a note to the seller.

Hoge.
