It sounds scary. I was almost decided to buy X220 because of the IPS display (I hate TN panels) but visible image retention after 15 minutes of static image displayed is definitely a flaw. I suspect it is just bad series of panels (hopefully) or excessive use of overdrive technology to get better response time.
The "image persistence" problem is quite common, even my NEC 2090 UXi (A-TW-IPS panel made by LG) monitor has it but only in small area and after approx. 10 hours of static image displayed. Definitely not in 15 minutes only !
BTW I have never noticed any image persistence on my old R51 with IPS panel made by IDTech. Is still impossible to get the same quality we had already seven years ago ?

That's actually surprising, as my understanding (so far) is that all X220 IPS displays should be presenting a fairly similar behavior.
When did you get it? What do you have set as your backgorund?

It was ordered on June 7, and shipped on June 12.

And so you left an app open for about 15 minutes, closed it, and see no afterimage at all?

I routinely work in a Web browser window for long periods of time (as I am now), and when I close (or minimize) the browser window, I cannot see any afterimage. I likewise do not see any afterimage during restart of the machine.

That's strange. I wonder if Lenovo has finally fixed their faulty IPS screens, but didn't tell any of their previous purchasers yet?
I hope we hear an official announcement about this very soon. The vast majority of us are having the exact same "ghosting" trouble. We will all need to send in our laptops for a replacement (properly working) IPS screen. I have two x220t's to send in for replacement/repair.
