With all due respect, that's sheer speculation that's of no real value.

@JNavas ("With all due respect, that's sheer speculation that's of no real value.")
I agree with you John. Unfortunately neither you or Lenovo have contributed anything of real value to this conversation either.
The lack of direct information and weakly clandestine coverup remarks, leaves us honest users concerned about the value of our purchases (x220) and the chances that our faulty screens will be fixed.
As we wait patiently for Lenovo to provide an official explanation and final decision, all we have is speculation and this general discussion to remind Lenovo that something still needs done. In that respect, this thread is succeeding at what it was originally created to accomplish.
So John, please keep replying to this thread so that it remains at the top of the forum list where more people can be made aware of Lenovo's IPS screen troubles. Thanks!

I can understand the frustration -- I shipped my X220 back to the deopt 6 weeks ago, and I still don't have it back.
That said, I'm still hoping Lenovo will publish a satisfactory response sometime reasonably soon.

@turnstyle
Most of us here are Thinkpad fans as well. I hope that when you get your laptop back it will have a properly working IPS screen on it. If so, please let us know, so that we can all send in our laptops for repair too!
Thanks, man.

IPS - there is a tip pending release which explains IPS vs TN functionality of the panel and why image persistence can occur. Lenovo engineering believes this normal functionality for this panel.
This can only be "normal" if Lenovo is using a substandard panel for the X220.
As I mentioned before, I have used (and still using) several IPS monitors and have experienced image retention on any of them.
Ufortunately, the decision to cancel my order seems to have been correct.

turnstyle,
I believe we have a customer relations case for you. Have you been working with your representative to get the system repaired or replaced? Please let me know if you need additional help on that so I can follow up with the rep!

Mark,
You said in another thread that "IPS - there is a tip pending release which explains IPS vs TN functionality of the panel and why image persistence can occur. Lenovo engineering believes this normal functionality for this panel."
I am so sorry but I hope your Lenovo engineers have not had anything weird (I meant a drink/smoke).
Ok, seriously in this day and age there is a problem with any display that has image retention after 15 minutes especially when we are talking about premium displays.
Can you ask the engineers again about this one because if it is normal for them then Lenovo has to provide proper disclaimers at the order that clearly states that the "premium display you are about to purchase has a premium feature: it will keep your lost images up even after you close that window."
This cannot be right.
I mean how would you explain this to those who want to use this for photo editing on the field.?

Hi Mark, yes -- and I should start by noting that your rep has been very helpful.
The last I heard was that there wasn't anything new to report. I also think my X220 might have been sent off to engineering for them to look at, so I don't think it actually even exists anymore. Is there now a published response to the X220 IPS image persistence situation?
Thanks for chiming in.
