[Help] - Lenovo X201i Hardware QC issue?

[ Edited ]

Hi,

First of all, pardon me for my bad English. I'm from Malaysia and today I've just gotten my newly shipped X201i and of course I was very excited to look at my brand new X201i after 2 years of satisfied user of X60s. Unfortunately, things doesn't turned out to be exactly what I've expected. Would like to seek for some advice, did anyone face this problem before as describe below?

Upon opening up the wrap which was sealed, immediately I've noticed a huge crack between the battery slot and the LCD.

I was stunned by this crack! How could this happen?! The box are perfectly fine, and there's not sign of damage on the box and it was just fresh out of the box!

Without 2nd thought, I quickly drove out to Lenovo service center to seek for help because there's no way to slot in the battery in this situation.

Upon arrival, I informed the person who pick up this case however, they seems reluctant to accept this condition because they think it is intentional damage on the chassis. I did tried to explain to the customer service:

1) The box is fine without any damage. I received this unit with another box covering this lenovo box.

2) The notebook definitely handled with care, it is brand new! If the notebook has been drop before, there's definitely a sign of dent or scratches at the edge or any other part of the notebook together with this crack but it is perfectly fine without any single scratches or dents.

3) This crack is not something easily can be done. It must had been caused by some amount of force. With this kind of force, it is unlikely the notebook will look perfect on other part except that crack.

4) I never intent to ask for money refund! I'm looking at a solution to fix this or get it replace on the chassis since it wasn't my fault to cause this crack.

I've somehow having some doubt over the quality control in the factory.

Re: [Help] - Lenovo X201i Hardware QC issue?

That's terrible. Looks like the part was damaged before assembly. My guess is production line pressure ie employee afraid of repremaind. From a laypersons perspective unless someone took a screwdriver and tried to pry that part with intention to crack it, there is no other way it could look like that. Doesnt look like a drop.

I hope you get it resolved. One way is to ask your credit card company to halt payment and this would force action if you have not received a considerate ear yet.

Re: [Help] - Lenovo X201i Hardware QC issue?

Thanks for the help JameZ. Had PM you the information.

Just got back the call from Lenovo service center and as expected, they did not approve the warranty as this is a physical damage.

From my point of view, they should investigate thoroughly but not just following the rules and regulation. They said the notebook was damaged during shipping and there will be no warranty on physical damage. However, if they take a look at the box, it is as good as perfect! If the box was damaged badly, I would had agreed with them but this is not the case.

The reason I've hand in the whole unit including box and accessories to let them understand everything is new and perfect even the box.

Re: [Help] - Lenovo X201i Hardware QC issue?

Hi Jamez,

This laptop was purchased through an online retailer which I believe did purchased directly from Lenovo factory. http://www.amuras.com. Did purchased a few laptops from them before and it looks perfect.
