Memory card as additional storage?

I'm thinking of popping in a SDXC memory card into my Thinkpad for extra storage. So far, I've only used these memory cards to transfer photos from my camera to my laptop. Are there any disadvantages to leaving an SDXC memory card inserted the whole time? Heat, card degrading, speed, ... ? Thanks.

Re: Memory card as additional storage?

I constantly leave my SD cards in the slot, there is no problem as far.

Re: Memory card as additional storage?

I have installed a micro sd card reader in my spare internal half mini pcie slot.  It can hold two micro sd cards thus currently would give me 128gb of extra storage.  As the 64gb cards are rather pricey at the moment I shall wait till they drop in price but will then use the space as storage.

Re: Memory card as additional storage?

since you are using SDXC micro sd cards, make sure you get reliable brands and not just as any cards. I have couple of the cheap 10 dollars 16 gigs microSD failing on me for no reason.

So be careful. Always backup.
