1. Used Roll Back Driver to Uninstall and Delete ThinkPad Bluetooth 3.0 07/20/2011 6.5.0.1445,
with automatic Windows driver install to ThinkPad Bluetooth 3.0 12/16/2010 6.4.0.1201

2. Uninstalled ThinkPad Bluetooth with Enhanced Data Rate Software 06/10/2011 6.4.0.1500,
leaving system with ThinkPad Bluetooth 3.0 12/16/2010 6.4.0.1201

3. Installed Bluetooth with Enhanced Data Rate Software II 6.4.0.2600 2011/08/15,
which actually installs driver 07/01/2011 6.5.0.1441 [could this be made any more confusing?]

No annoying startup "ding" -- problem solved -- thank you.

HOWEVER: Windows Update again offers "Broadcom Corporation - Bus Controllers and Ports - ThinkPad Bluetooth 3.0 (released July 2011, published 08/11/2011), which installs ThinkPad Bluetooth 3.0 07/20/2011 6.5.0.1445, a later driver version. What now?!

Since its a optional update from MS, there is no need to update it and I would recommend using the one provided by Lenovo as it has been verified by Broadcom and Lenovo engineers.

All hardware drivers from Windows Update are optional.
I can't imagine how it could get there without the involvement of Lenovo and/or Broadcom.

The problem for me is that my clients can't be expected not to install "ThinkPad" items from Windows Update.

If Lenovo really doesn't want something like this going out through Windows Update,

then it should take that up with Microsoft and/or Broadcom.

JameZ saved my day!
I had it all going just well when I got back my T410 from the IT-dep equipped with a clean Win7/64. Had to install all the Lenovo drivers myself though, but all went well. ...Until I installed the [Broadcom Corporation - Bus Controllers and Ports - ThinkPad Bluetooth 3.0] FROM WINDOWS UPDATE!

Do not - I repeat; DO NOT - install the [Broadcom Corporation - Bus Controllers and Ports - ThinkPad Bluetooth 3.0] FROM WINDOWS UPDATE if everything is OK! It might screw up your Bluetooth connections to for some BT headphones.

I have a Nokia BH-905i, which worked perfectly fine with XP Pro/32 and also Win7/64 before this notorious Windows Update patch. After the update I got problems with pairing the device and connecting the headset with BT went totally dead.

I resolved the problem by uninstalling all Bluetooth-related, rebooting and installing the file JameZ supplied above.

So, thanks once again!
