Re: ThinkPad X60s BIOS lockout

I was having issues setting any BIOS options and was told to speak to my system supervisor to gain access (in the BIOS options). Unfortunately, I can't gain access and there is nowhere to give a supervisor password so I can actually make any changes. I was hoping someone can help me figure out how I can make a change or do something so I can actually give the password.

I know there are rules about posting about security issues say not to post security workarounds, but I am hoping this is ok and will just let me know how I can enter the password so I can make changes in the BIOS.

Thanks so much in advance!

Re: ThinkPad X60s BIOS lockout

IvanZdr, welcome to the forum,

the system must be in turned off state, this will not work from a restart. When you start the system and see the BIOS splash screen you need to press F1, when required to enter a password you need to enter the supervisor password. If further passwords are requested enter these accordingly.

Andy

Re: ThinkPad X60s BIOS lockout

Andy,

Thanks for the help!  F1 wasn't working before, but after installing CSS 8.3, I was prompted to enter the password and was able to finally change the BIOS settings.  I'm still not sure why I needed to do that workaround, but I'm glad it finally works. :smileyhappy:

Re: ThinkPad X60s BIOS lockout

Ivan,

Maybe you were pressing F1 at the wrong moment, afaik CSS cannot influence access to BIOS.

That said, glad that you got things sorted, that's what's important here :smileyhappy:
