Terrible Customer Service, Expensive Laptops

The first time I ordered my X300, they cancelled my order because the shipping address I provided did not match the address that the credit card company had on file - which is because I'd just moved! Instead of notifying me, they mysteriously canceled the shipment of my laptop. Even after I rectified the problem with my credit card company, I had to re-order my laptop and wait 3 more weeks for it.

Then, when my laptop came - it had no CD drive! When I customized my laptop online, I was never given any options about the CD drive - so I couldn't have opted to add it or remove it. Imagine my surprise when I had to manually eject the CD drive and found a flimsy plastic frame instead of a drive! To return my laptop, I have to pay Lenovo $200 - or 15% of the laptop's cost - and THEN pay another $200 for a laptop with a CD drive. The only way for me to fix this problem is to be out $400.

No doubt this new laptop will arrive with some equally bizarre problem. Even if I decided not to order a new laptop, I sitll have to pay the $200 return fee. That, coupled with the countless hours on the phone spent waiting for a customer service representative, have pretty much ruined Lenovo in my mind. The laptops may be great, but the company needs better management and a more compromising attitude with wrong orders.

AMEN!

Lenovo has the crappiest customer service, but great Laptops. What a terrible shame!

Why do you need to send the notebook back to have the drive fitted? You could just order it as an accessory and plug it in yourself.

My sympathies for your difficulties, but I don't think that Lenovo are 100% to blame. The incorrect credit card address was not Lenovo's problem, and perhaps if you had studied the spec presented at the point of purchase you might have noticed that the optical drive was missing.

Re: Terrible Customer Service, Expensive Laptops

sorry to hear about your troubles.

another option would be to buy a new, refurbished, or redistributed model from the lenovo outlet.   there are new X300s there with optical drives starting at around $1585 plus tax.   refurbished models with optical drives start at around $1450 plus tax.

please note that there are models in the outlet without optical drives so you'll need to read the descriptions carefully.
