ThinkPad X61s Type 7666-AH2 will not power from battery

Hey Gang:

With original as well as brand new replacement battery when AC adaptor is plugged in battery (green) indicator shows fully charged battery and OS will boot no problem. When adaptor is unplugged battery  indicator turns off and machine will not boot.

My suspicion is a bad system board (unfortunately customer did not supply diagnostic discs)

Your thoughts would be appreciated!

if this behaviour is consistent in the bios menu, and that the battery is known to be working, then there is a high probability that the motherboard issue that is causing this problem.

I don't trust replacement batteries. Too often they get delivered in a poor quality and need to be replaced twice until getting a working battery, even the power manager shows a good condition.

Try to meet somebody with the same notebook and exchange batteries for a test with him.
