Hi,
I have a OCZ Vertex 2 SSD i'd like to hook up to my x121e.
I've bought an external case for the disk which has a usb cable for both data and power.
But...when i plug in the cable it doesnt find the drive.
Is there something i need to change in BIOS to get the laptop to access external drives?
Or isnt there enough power to access an external disk on such a small laptop?
Any ideas?
Thanks

Does your SSD + USB adapter work on other computers?
When you say it "doesn't find the drive" are you referring to BIOS, Windows Explorer, Disk Management, or ???
If you can see it in disk management, but not explorer, it probably needs to be initialized (in disk management).
It could also be a power issue.
More info needed....

Hello,
Have you tried all of the USB ports on the ThinkPad X121e?

Yes i've tried all of the ports.
When i connect the disk there is a blue light on the external case for about half a second, then it disappears.
Surely there must be enough power to support an external disk when i have the power cable plugged in to the laptop?

Hello,
You might want to try a dual-headed USB cable to see if additional power helps.

Hi,
I have a dual usb cable, one port for data and one for power.
Do i need to apply some settings to my laptop in order for all 3 usb ports to be powered?

Did you look in Device Manager?
When I was cloning my SSD using a single-cable USB-SATA adapter, the instructions said to go to Computer Management, then Disk Management.
The USB drive may show up there as "inactive" or some such thing, and right-clicking will give you an option to "bring online" or something.
It's worth trying if you haven't yet.
