Great, I think the x40 was the best one ever made, but I guess I'm a little biased.

You aren't! I also loved my X40 dearly, I only part it away because of the slow 4200rpm drive.

Re: Thinkpad x40 Wireless Driver will not connect with wireless card

Maliha,
It was the slow hard drive that got me into this fix I replaced it with the KingSpec SSD, which worked very nicely until it didn't work at all (about 6 months). When I restored the old HD to the machine, it was at that point that I had the trouble with the wireless driver that brought me to this form to begin with. I'm now considering the RunCore 32 GB PATA SSD. Most of my work is on a faster X60s, but for the price of an SSD, we'll have the x40 working fine as a backup. If anyone has an opinion abut the RunCore, I'd appreciate hearing it. (I've read the small handful of online notices already).

I don't know anything about the Runcore but I'm using this in an x41.  It doesn't benchmark as well as the newer ones but there's no drive error and it's a lot faster than that stock drive.  It's Lenovo branded. I've had it in for a year now, no problems.

That kingspec you had, were you running a modded bios or did it give you a drive error?

I think, don't hold me to it, that the drive is a Samsung.  I paid about 180.00 a year ago, the prices have come down somewhat.  Eventually, I think I'm gonna get 2 more for the other x41 and the x40.

Maliha, thanks for the vote on the x40, sometimes I forget that I'm not the only one who likes them.

Dave

Re: Thinkpad x40 Wireless Driver will not connect with wireless card

Dave,
I updated the bios before I installed the Kingspec. but I don't remember a drive error. I do recall that it took several tries to get the thing up and running (can't remember why now). Thanks for that Lenovo ssd suggestion. I would rather use one made for the x40, and vouched for by you, than another mystery drive. Thanks, Dave: you're two-for-two on solutions.
