White Pinhole Spot on Screen?

I recently purchased an X61ThinkPad (model 7675CTO) and when I boot up the laptop, I notice a pinhole white dot on the screen. After Windows XP boots, the white pinhole dot appears on the screen as well. Does anyone know what causes this?

Thanks,

Mike

Re: White Pinhole Spot on Screen?

Where is this located, would it coincide with the Trackpoint on the keyboard? Is that pushed down all the way?
What's the diameter of that spot?

Re: White Pinhole Spot on Screen?

It is located in the center at the lower portion of the screen. The diameter is so small that I don't think it is measurable.

Like I said, see if that coincides with the trackpoint. You may have had dirt on it at some time, when you closed the lid.
Can't think of any other explanation.

If it is a dead pixel, try to gently 'massage' that spot (i.e. rub up/down, left/right), to see if it will disappear.

Re: White Pinhole Spot on Screen?

It sounds like a bad pixel that is "stuck on".

I believe there are some software applets that can be downloaded that will excercise the pixels and may be able to correct it.  There are also some physical treatment methods discussed online.   I believe RBS is suggesting some of the gentle rubbing techniques described in the wiki entry contained in the link below.

Here is one such article with some tips and links to other resources to get you started.

None of these are prescribed methods recommended or endorsed by Lenovo, but you might still find them useful.
