X Series Laptops Shipping discussion (2010)

All,

Post your shipping and order management experiences here:

Here are some common points of frequent discussion:

Avoid Credit Holds - ensure that BOTH your bill to and ship to addresses are listed with your CC bank before ordering
Lenovo will NOT bill your card until order ships - an authorization charge hold to check for available balance may show up when order is first placed.
Estimated ship dates are based on default lead time and can vary from what was displayed on website.
In the US and Canada, Lenovo utilizes UPS for new product shipments
Orders may ship before the Estimated Ship Date
Orders may enter through Alaska and pass through Louisville, KY before traveling on to final address
Cancellation requests may take up to 2 days to process
Requests to change configuration or other aspects of the order may require the order to be rebooked.
Lenovo does not accept payment via international credit cards, except AMEX.

[ Edited ]

Hi,

I ordered mine (x200s) on 12/12/09 and it shipped on 12/21/09

Got the 2 day shipping deal but after 15 days... still no laptop :smileyhappy:

this is what UPS tracking says:

Re: X Series Notebooks Shipping Messages

I got the "two-day shipping" too.  I now discover my computer is sitting in Louisville limbo where I guess it will remain until the 13th of the month, so it can be delivered on the 14th as they originally planned.

UPS's online tracking systems are horrible.  I get conflicting tracking messages from one moment to the next.

When I called UPS customer "service," I was told information online is not accurate (!?) I also was told that my ostensibly two-day shipment was actually going by the cheapest service available.

In other words, Lenovo is charging people for expedited service while providing the worst service they offer.  (She described it as "most economical.")

Sounds like consumer fraud to me!

Did you get yours yet?

My x-200t shipment is starting to look eerily similar.

Re: X Series Notebooks Shipping Messages

No.  I haven't gotten it.

My scans are almost identical to yours, + or - some minutes.  I was hoping to see a subsequent notice showing the package arriving here from Louisville (on 5X 1322).  No such luck.

UPS is quite happy to let stuff drift around in their system and then make the delivery on their scheduled date.  I suppose they see that as managing workflow...although this way they can be sending out planes half empty for the sake of handling their preordained flow.

The real enemy here is Lenovo.  They sold me a two-day air service, which just didn't happen.  UPS tells me this is the cheapest service -- not expedited.  I sent an email to UPS's fraud-reporting address to make them aware of this.

Re: X Series Notebooks Shipping Messages

I had a conversation with someone at UPS who is involved with customs clearance.  She was not particularly friendly and was quite defensive, assuming I was attempting to get her to commit to something, when I only was trying to understand the process.

Apparently, batches of computers (in our case, several hundred units) trickle in under one blanket customs document.  This document has some sort of date with the expected clearance date on it.  (In our case it is the 14th of January -- tomorrow.)  From what I could detect from talking to this confusing and unpleasant woman, they all should go out tomorrow, even if a few of the units haven't shown up yet.

It obviously is possible to let the units ship out as they arrive.  My guess is that the consolidated customs declarations are kept consolidated to minimize cost...but with no regard to customers.  It's galling to think that Lenovo can turn around a custom computer in days, only to have it rot for many more days in a warehouse in Louisville.

This process is unacceptable to me.  It should be unacceptable to UPS and it should also be unacceptable to Lenovo.  I don't know if it's the fault of US Customs or the broker that UPS is using.

Re: X Series Notebooks Shipping Messages

The machine arrived late, late, late.  Later than the lazy due date -- it missed the flight from Louisville.  So I had to scramble to load everything before my trip.

The very good news is that the computer is fantastic.  I'm perfectly delighted with its quality and the functionality.

One day Lenovo may get its customer service and shipping into the same kind of shape.

Re: X Series Notebooks Shipping Messages

Can someone pls help enlighten me.

I ordered 2  X200s  during the black Friday sales for the twins' christmas presents.

There were 2 purchase orders due to 2 separate transactions.

1 arrived and 1 didn't.

I tried the infamous customer service to no avail.

Now I am still owing the boy's christmas present.

WHAT CAN I DO ABOUT LENOVO's CUSTOMER SERVICE?

Re: X Series Laptops Shipping discussion (2010)

So far, my ordering and shipping experience has been just fine, so I thought I'd post it here as an encouragment for others - not everyone has a bad experience. I ordered my X200 on 1/13 and it shipped on 1/18. It is now in town and scheduled to be delivered on Monday. My only gripe is that I wish I knew a bit more about what the various UPS statuses mean. Interestingly, when you try to search for them, the only posts that you find are in regards to Lenovo shipments. UPS tracking is below - seems to me that it flowed along perfectly.

Re: X Series Laptops Shipping discussion (2010)

While I don't think it is useful to see messages from the thousands of people who have no shipping issues, I agree with pdxrita that it helps to show some balance.

I recevied my X200 yesterday.  The original ship date (when the order was placed) was sometime in early February.  So Lenovo shipped early.  UPS put a delivery date of 1/27 on the web, but then took it down after a few hours.  Nonetheless they delivered it on 1/27.  I think my shipping took two more days than pdxrita's, but I went with the cheapest shipping.

In summary, my expectations were exceeded.

I like the machine a lot.  I don't remember ordering the WAN (so the config may be a bit off), but otherwise the machine is what I expected.

The only suggestion I would have for Lenovo would be to use more generic packaging.  I'd rather not have expensive electronics clearly labeled during shipping.
