I believe the WAN card in the X1 Carbon is the Ericsson H5321gw - from what I can tell that card only supports 3G (see http://www.techship.se/products/ericsson-h5321gw-1

Hey there bertsirkin,
It appears that you are correct regarding only 3G connectivity for the X1 Carbon.

Connection
Ethernet via USB dongle
Intel Centrino Advanced-N 62055 2x2AGN
BlueTooth 4.0
Optional 3G WWAN
I don't know why, but Lenovo chose not to include 4G.

That's frustrating, as the salesperson on the phone assured me that it was 4G capable.

Ouch, wonder why they told you that it did have 4G?
Out of curiosity, which Model are you getting? One of the i5's, or one of the i7's?

Yea, that's a definite possibility. How much extra heat would a 4G add vs a 3G though?

good question. i've got no clue as i don't use wwan.
i have experienced increasing heat output from wlan cards, as i've moved from b to g to n speeds. not sure, though, how well it would correlate to 3g vs 4g.
one thing for sure... the thinner these machines get designed, the more critical heat generation and dissipation becomes.

Unfortunately, I'll still have to use the huge Verizon USB WWAN card that I have! FWIW, my current Verizon card barely gets warm.
<<Out of curiosity, which Model are you getting? One of the i5's, or one of the i7's?>>
I ordered the lowest model - i5/4gb but with a 256gb SSD.
I figure the i5 should use less battery, as will the 4gb ram. I also plan on putting a 128gb SD card in the computer permanantly for extra storage.
Even though I use very intensive apps (i.e., Photochop CS6 with very 70MB images), I don't see much, of an advantage of the i7, based on other computers I use. Same with 4gb vs 8gb. the biggest differences I see between all the computers I use is a 64-bit OS and an SSD. I don't see any significant differences between i3, i5 and i7 in what I do. Gaming might be different, but I don't plan on doing any gaming on the X1 Carbon.

Pulled up Model specs for the one you ordered, and it deffinately comes with the Ericsson H5321 WWAN Card, which is 3G only.

Well, DC-HSPA+ is referred to as 4G by some US carriers, and the card does support DC-HSPA+, but it doesn't support any form of LTE.
Expect continuing confusion on what is real "4G" to persist across global markets for quite a while to come...... Apple has already got itself into trouble in some markets globally over claiming 4G capability for the iPad 3 on the basis of supporting DC-HSPA+ in North America!
Cheers,
Bill
