X100e BIOS Problems with WWAN Device Gobi 2000

Hello,

I'm experiencing massive problems with the BIOS versions newer than the 1.10a release.

As soon as I apply the two newer versions 1.11 (6XET32WW) and 1.13 (6XET34WW), the WWAN device Gobi 2000 isn't listed any more in the device manager and a connection using this device isn't possible any more.

The newest Access Connections states that the device isn't found.

Applying the setup defaults after updating the BIOS doesn't resolve the problem.

Searching the internet shows, that multiple people are struggling with this problem.

As soon as I roll back to the 1.10a (6XET31WW) BIOS version, the problem doesn't exist any more.

System details:

* Thinkpad Model: 2876-27G

* all newest thinkpad/thinkvantage packages installed

* all currently available windows updates installed

* Working BIOS: 1.10a (6XET31WW)

* Problem causing BIOS: 1.11 (6XET32WW) and 1.13 (6XET34WW)

Hello rotorhead, welcome to Lenovo forums!

Please try this:

1. In BIOS under "Security" / "IO Port Access" disable the devices "WiMAX" and "Wireless WAN"
2. Reboot
3. Shut down the machine completely.
4. Go into BIOS and enable "WiMAX" and "Wireless WAN"

If that doesn´t work please uninstall WWAN-driver, Access Connection und Hot key driver, then install first the hotkey driver, AC and WWAN driver.

Thanks for the fast response! I totally have overseen this post at www.thinkpad-forum.de.

To say it short: nothing helped.

I've tried the above mentioned procedure to disable the WWAN and the WIMAX components in the BIOS which didn't solve the problem. Then I have uninstalled the Gobi drivers, uninstalled Access Connections and afterwards the HotKeys stuff and reinstalled the whole set vice versa. Always rebooting between the steps of course.

As mentioned in the thread at thinkpad-forum.de the Qualcomm Gobi device is currently being listed not under the COM & LPT devices as "Qualcomm Gobi 2000 HS-USB QDLoader 9204". But that's all. No Gobi device listed under Networking, where it should be.

Try loading the BIOS defaults.

Enter BIOS (F1 on boot)

then press F9 then F10.  See if that helps.

Unfortunately I've done exactly this action but this doesn't help at all. :-/

Steps I've taken after updating the BIOS in Windows:

1) Reboot

2) Enter BIOS

3) Applied setup defaults

4) Booted into OS and checked if Gobi device is now listed in the device list -> none listed

5) Rebooted and entered the BIOS

6) Disabled the two devices (WIMAX and WWAN) as described above

7) Saved settings and rebooted

8) Booted into OS and checked if Gobi device is now listed in the device list -> none listed

9) Shut down the laptop

10) Entered the BIOS and re-enabled the two devices again

11) Saved settings and rebooted

12) Booted into OS and checked if Gobi device is now listed in the device list -> still none listed

Either I'm doing something completely wrong or the BIOS contains a major bug.

Same problem here.

Tried:

• every available BIOS version
• clean Windows 7 Installation with only Gobi driver and AC / F5 App
• disable trick in BIOS
• F11 recovery of the whole system

I opened a support case, but no luck.

I have exactly the same problem. 

When we did a Lenovo update on the X100 we got the news firmware  and now the WWAN does not work. The Qualcomm Gobi device is currently being listed not under the COM & LPT devices as "Qualcomm Gobi 2000 HS-USB QDLoader 9204 COM3". But that's all. No Gobi device listed under Networking, where it should be.

And now there is no way to downgrade the firmware to en earlier version.

HELP!!!!

Hello,

I have the same problem. My BIOS is last 1.20a (6XET36WW) but the upgrade do not resolve the error. I've uninstalled, installed and restored the drivers and the system, but I not found a way to reenable the wwan card.

In the devices manager I only have a COM/LPT port named "Qualcomm Gobi 2000 HS-USB QDLoader 9204" and nothing under NETWORK.

Unlike Rotorhead, roll back to the 1.10a (6XET31WW) BIOS do not fix the issue.

How I can have support from lenovo about this bug?

I need to use WWAN connections outside the work office!

Hi!

Concerning your comment that there's no option to downgrade the BIOS level:

When downloading the current BIOS from the Lenovo website, the old BIOS versions are listed in a section "Determining which version is installed". There you'll be able to download the older versions of the BIOS files.

A little update on the problem: Lenovo has released a new BIOS for the x100e. Unfortunately it doesn't resolve the problem I have reported. Maybe it helps somebody else in this thread...
