X120e Factory Restore

Having numerous problems with Lenovo Tinkpad X120e, including:

1. Windows Blue Screen - C000021a (Fatal System Error) on Startup.

2. Machine crashing when switching between battery and A/C connection mode. (Every time)

3. Unable to Run ThinkVantage System Health & Diagnostic without crashing.

I think all the issues are software rather than hardware. Therefore I want to restore to Factory Settings, but are stuck cos F11 doesn't boot the Factory Restore. I have checked and still have the 2 Thinkpad partitions, have Bios 1.16, have created Factory Recover Disk to a 16G  USB Key. Do I need to change the settings in the BIOS to do with UEFI? Why can't I boot using F11?

Help!

Re: X120e Factory Restore

Hi aussieamour, and welcome to the forum.

Why not using the USB Recovery Disk you have created to restore the system?

I can't test booting with f11 since I clean installed a so called "vanilla" or plain windows 7.

If you would like to make a clean installation of windows 7 on your x120e, instead of a factory default, check this link: Install windows 7 from a USB thumb drive in uefi mode You will have more control on your system.

Re: X120e Factory Restore

I created a USB Records Key successfully (Formatted as NTFS, with Factory Restore Files). Then Uninstalled Rescue and Recovery. Set Bios to Factory Defaults. Now have F11 available on startup, and can boot from the USB for Recovery Partition. However, after loading the windows files on startup I get the same blue screen of death. C000021a

So maybe I do have a hardware issue, rather than a software issue. Will investigate further today.

Re: X120e Factory Restore

It is not a bad idea testing another set of OS. Try a Linux distro, see if it boots up. Or another way of installing windows, other than factory restore.

If the same problem occur, than test your ram cards. If you have two, try removing them and test them one by one. If you have only one, try to find another one to make a test. Maybe you have a faulty ram card.

Re: X120e Factory Restore

Hi - were you able to fix this problem? I've just started noticing in the last couple of days that when I switch from battery to a/c, I get the c000021a error. The first couple of times I did a reboot and it worked, but it's not working anymore.

Cheers,

D
