X200: will not start

My X200 battery drained while the computer was in sleep mode. The battery is now charged, but the computer will not start up on battery or AC power (or with AC when the battery is taken out). I have tried removing the battery and pressing the power switch 10 times, then holding it for 30 seconds, but this had no effect. I left it on all night with the AC connected and a charged battery but at no point did the computer start up. The battery indicator light shows the power is on; the power indicator light is also on. The laptop is warm and humming but the BIOS does not come up and the hard drive indicator light does not come on. The computer is out of warranty and from what I have read, the system board is hard to find now. Until yesterday, the system was working beautifully. What should I check or do next?

Re: X200: will not start

I should mention also, there are no beeps. There are no beeps when I power on, and no sounds when I connect or disconnect the AC cord.

Re: X200: will not start

Hi sambhogi,

First thing, shine a flashlight on the screen when you start it up and see if you can see any images on the screen.

If not, shut it off, pull the hard drive, unhook the ac and the battery and do the power switch hold down again.  Then, leave the hard drive out, plug in only the ac adapter and see if it powers up to the bios screen.  Look for a faint image on the screen.

Dave

Re: X200: will not start

OK tried that. No joy. I see no sign of an image on the screen. The one thing of note that happens is when I power on with AC only, the power indicator comes on, the caps lock and num lock lights flash once, then the power indicator goes off, comes on again, and the caps lock and num lock indicators flash once more, before the power indicator stays on (but no BIOS). I'm not sure what to check next. My next thoughts are: loose connection of some type, or perhaps the backup battery is dead?

Re: X200: will not start

Hum you can try to remove the cmos battery and see whether that helps. But sound like a dead motherboad.

Did you ever spilled anything on it before?

Re: X200: will not start

Have exactly same symptoms, taking off all power didn't do the trick. Changing sys board is really the only solution? Pretty sucky solution.. Mine got to that stage when I installed wwan card and antenna. It was in pieces without battery about three weeks. Now when I finally got the parts and put it together, it's dead. How convenient.
