X201 Boot ExpressCard SSD?

I have a large 750GB HDD, and would like to consider adding an SSD for performance purposes to my X201. The ExpressCard slot seemed like it might be an option, but older thread suggest that booting from the ExpressCard slot would not be an option. Am wondering if this has changed? I'm running Ubuntu if that makes a difference.

 

Assuming I don't use an Ultrabase, are there any other options for putting a fast boot capable SSD in the system will preserving my HDD?

Hi kennyschiff,

Thinkpad X201 series could boot from HDD, ODD (CD or DVD) or USB media. Simplist way is remove your HDD and put it to
usb->SATA enclosure so you'll have a removeable drive.
