X201 no power up from battery only

Laptop will not power up from battery only.  No indicator lights either.

Powers up normally if I remove battery and plug in AC .  Everything functions normally.  Battery charges, indicators normal.

Except for power up, laptop works fine on battery.

Questions:

  Is the problem with the battery?  About $175 to replace

  Is there a problem with circuitry on the motherboard?  About $1250 to replace.

I found a very small amount of moisture between battery and laptop contacts before (at least a week before) the problem started.

I have been unable to find a substitute battery to troubleshoot.

Appreciate any suggestions you might have.

From what you are describing it is more likely a motherboard issue.
