I want to know, can I get Always On USB in Windows 7 Hibernate mode, when my AC Charger is not connected?
There's another old thread that sort of addresses my issues, but not specifically for the X220, and not specifically in Hibernate mode.
The help file for Power Manager says...
"When the Enable Always On USB check box is selected, USB power is supplied even when the computer is in standby mode, in hibernation mode, or turned off. When the computer is off, the Always On USB feature works only when the computer power is supplied through an ac adapter."
Which clearly implies that Always On USB should work without the AC charger when the machine is in hibernate. This is not my experience. Anyone have any evidence to the contrary?

Hi JohnThomas,
hibernation means write data from RAM into Hard Disk then power off. So in hibernate mode, machine will charge only if AC is attached.

Hey JohnThomas,
With Always On USB the computer needs to be plugged into an AC adapter to power/charge any device you have plugged into it.
Enable Always On USB
When the Enable Always On USB check box is selected, USB power is supplied even when the computer is in standby mode, in hibernation mode, or turned off. When the computer is in hibernation mode or turned off, the Always On USB feature works only when the computer power is supplied through an ac adapter.
Though I can see how this can be misleading it does not work unless you have an adapter plugged in and this is how is suppose to work. I know you know this but I am just trying to confirm that this is right and it will not work without the adapter plugged in.
Best Regards,
Hiro

Use standby, it'll charge without being plugged in.

Sleep works fine with Always On USB without AC plugged in. Charge my Galaxy Nexus nicely =)
